This is Kristens first story.. enjoy!
"Hey! Watch that! Harlan, stop picking on Bova! He can kill you, you know. Rosie, don't pull Radu's hair. Radu! Leave Harlan alone! JEWEL! STOP!"
Davenport decided to forget it. She knew Goddard would come in soon, and that he'd put a stop to all the nonsense.
Just then, Jewel screamed. It was her high pitched scream that only Radu could hear.
"Jewel, stop!" Davenport yelled, but it was too late.
"Watch out, Theresa!" Jewel yelled.
"What the...."
Suddenly, Radu ran smack into Davenport. She fell over backwards. That's when Goddard came in.
"What did you do?" he asked. "Miss Davenport, are you all right?"
"Its my fault!" Radu yelled. "I'm sorry, Commander."
"Its more my fault than his," Jewel said. "I shouldn't have screamed like that."
"Ok, ok," Goddard said. "Give Miss Davenport some air. Its bad enough you tried to kill her; don't actually suceed. Jewel, what do think?"
"Don't let her go to sleep, Commander. We should take her to go get some quiet," Jewel answered.
"Are you ok?" Radu asked her.
"What?" Davenport said. "What happened?"
"How could you forget something like that?" Goddard said.
"Unless she's got amnesia!" Bova said.
"Amnesia?" the crew, except for Jewel, Bova and Davenport yelled.
"Don't yell at me!" Bova said.
"He's right," Jewel said. "She does have amnesia. She doesn't remember anything!"
"What's amnesia?" Davenport asked.
"See?" Bova said. "I told you!"
"What do you suggest?" Goddard asked Jewel.
"Back to my room," Jewel said, so they took Davenport into her and Jewel's bunkroom.
"What can you do?" Goddard asked.
"Basically- nothing. We just have to sit back and wait for her memory to come back."
"How long will that be?" Goddard asked.
"Oh, it can be anywhere from five minutes to five years."
"Years?! I hope you mean Mercurian years."
"No, Earth years, you moron. Besides, I kinda like Theresa better this way."
"Jewel! How can you say such a thing?"
"Sorry."
"Well, since there is nothing we can do about it, why don't we all go back to the command post and watch that movie I found about the comet? I'm suure Thelma will put it on the screen for us."
"`Kay."
So they went back to the command post. Davenport held Goddard's hand because she did not know anyone anymore. After Thelma put the "movie" on, Jewel whispered to Davenport..
"Hey, Theresa, its ok to cuddle."
"Really?" Davenport asked. "I like this guy. He's cool. And he looks good from the rear view."
Jewel was shocked. That was the exact same words she used to describe Goddard the first day she arrived on the Christa. "Wow," Jewel said. "And if he's a lttle reluctant, its only because he likes you and thinks you're an angel."
"Angel?"
"Exactly," Jewel said. So she watched as Davenport tried to cuddle up with Goddard. By the look on his face, you'd think that he just saw the dreaded Pezner, the Jovian monster that killed people back on Jewel's home Callisto.
"What's wrong, Miss Davenport?" Goddard asked her. "Are you cold?"
"Take me- I mean, uh, yeah. Will you warm me up?"
"Thelma, get a blanket for her."
Davenport pouted. When Thelma gave her the blanket, she said,"Well, thanks for nothing!" She got up and left the room.
"What was that all about?" Radu asked.
"I'll go talk to her," Rosie said. She got up and went to find Davenport.
A while later Rosie came back. "Thanks, Jewel, thanks a whole lot. Now she's scared to death to even look at Goddard. Thanks for telling her about Goddard thinking she was an `angel'."
"Jewel...." Goddard started.
"Oops," Jewel said.
"Jewel," Goddard began,"I know that you Callistonian Jovians like humor, but I think you've gone too far. Go tell Miss Davenport you are sorry, then go directly to your quarters."
"Do not pass go, do not collect one hundred dollars," Jewel said. "Hey! I just got an idea-"
"Now, Miss Tamsin!"
"All right, all right. But only because I don't know how to play Monopoly." Jewel got up and stomped out of the room.
"That girl will be the death of me!" Goddard said.
"Don't you remember?" Harlan asked. "She sort of saved your life."
"Oh, yeah. I remember. I remember how she tricked Warlord Shank into thinking that Elmira was now living on Earth with some guy named Paul. This Paul is a really good actor. He's pretty darned cute, too."
"No details!" Radu said. The others caught on to the joke and laughed.
"Funny, Mr. Radu. Just peachy. I think that Jewel's a bit- undertaught."
"Undertaught?" Radu repeated. "How do you mean?"
"Well, she's from the planet Jupiter. You know perfectly well that the Jovians are forgetful of other people's feelings. I-"
"Hello, Seth."
Goddard and the crew looked up at the doorway. Davenport was standing there.
"Uh, hello, TJ. What's up?"
"I am!" Davenport grinned. "Do you want to do dinner tonight?"
"JEWEL TAMSIN! I'M GOING TO TEAR YOU TO SHREADS!" Goddard said.
"Picky, picky," Davenport said. "Are you questioning the Jovians? Because I know people-"
"No," Goddard said. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing. Dinner, dear?"
Goddard didn't know what to do. "All right, I guess. Did Jewel put you up to this?"
"Of course not!" Davenport said. "In fact, I didn't even let her talk to me. She went straight to her bunkroom. She doesn't even know I'm here."
Radu laughed, but only Davenport knew why.
"Quiet!" Goddard yelled at him. "I need to think."
"Dinner?" Davenport said. "Right now. In the lounge." She grabbed him and dragged him to the lounge.
"So, what do you think about this?" Davenport asked him.
"Very sudden."
Davenport stifled a laugh. "You know, dear, I only wanted to be near you. I have loved you for some time now."
"Oh, did you? I never noticed."
Now Davenport did laugh. "Seth, if you want, maybe can we do dinner again? Like tomorrow? And maybe keep each other warm."
Goddard stood up. "Did you say 'a long time'?"
"Sure did, sweet thing."
"Ok. We can go out, I guess. But its not like we can go anywhere."
Davenport could not stop laughing.
"Wait a minute! Did you say 'a long time'?"
"Sure did, sweet thing."
"This was a trick!" Goddard said.
"You got that right!" Jewel appeared out of the corner. "And boy, did we get you good!"
"What's this all about?"
"Miss Tamsin here decided that humor was a good way to get a relationship started. So I thought-"
"You listened to something Jewel said?"
"Sure did. Turns out she's pretty smart once you listen to her babbling."
"Hey!" Jewel said. "I heard that!"
Goddard started laughing. "This- this was a setup?"
"Sure was, sweet thing." And then Davenport gave Goddard a kiss. Jewel pretended to hide her eyes.
"Wow." Goddard said. "You did all this just to get together?"
"No," Davenport said. "We did this to make you feel really stupid."
"It worked!" Goddard said. He kissed her.
"Oh, man!" Jewel said. "This is just like an Earthly love movie. Growdy!"
Davenport and Goddard didn't pay any attention to her.
"Oh, man!" Jewel said again. "What have I started?"
And the other cadets, who had been watching from the command post, laughed at Jewel.
"I know where you live!" Jewel said.
Davenport and Goddard stop kissing long enough for Davenport to say, "I've got the world in the palm of my hands!"
"Christaville!" Radu yelled. "Are you nuts?"
That's when Goddard and Davenport left. Nobody saw them until the next day...
