THE COLEMAN DEEDS INDEX - PART 4 - 1800 - 1864

This is an index to the section of the Calendar of Deeds published by the

National Library of Wales in 1921 which relates to Glamorgan. The original

Deeds were purchased by the National Library of Wales from Mr James

Coleman.

The original Deeds are held at the National Library, but transcripts of them

are contained in the Calendar, of which 500 copies were printed around 1921 (I

am luckily the owner of one of these 500 copies.

This is the 4th and final part of the index which covers the period up from 1800 to 1864. It

includes all persons named in the Calendar, including witnesses, Attorneys

etc

The index is alphabetical, by surname; where there are variant spellings of a

surname I have attempted to group these together, eg Bidder, Bydder; it would

still be wise, however, for anyone using the index to check variant spellings to be

on the safe side; where an occupation other than Gent or Yeoman is referred to I

have included it in brackets after the name eg Thomas, John (mercer); simlarly,

where a relationship between persons indexed is given I have included this in

brackets eg Jones, Ann (wife of John Jones); the place name which follows the

personal name is that which is shown in the description of the person - it is not

necessarily the same as the place which the deed relates to (and there are a

number of places outside Glamorgan listed because the person concerned was

from outside the county, although also holding land or office in Glamorgan); the

date following the place name is the year of the Deed or the year which the Deed

reffers to; the DD number after the date is the Deed Reference Number; the

letters in brackets after the DD number are as follows:-

Abstract = Abstract of Deed or other document

Aff = Affidavit

Amt= Agreement

Assign = Assignment

Att = Attested Copy

Bond = Bond

Case Statement = Statement of a Cse to a Court or other Legal Body

Cert = Certificate

Court Roll - Copy of Original Roll

Decree = Decree in Chancery

DP = Deed Poll

Est = Estreat

Exem = Exemplification

Grant = Grant

Ind = Indenture

Ind Mar = Indenture related to a marriage

Inq = Inquisition

LP = Letters Patent

Mand = Mandate

Memo = Memorandum

PA = Power of Attorney

Sched = Schedule

Will = Probate of Will

NB: Where a name is not followed by a place it is likely that the person listed

was a witness to the Deed eg Jones, William 1655 DD 990 (Ind) would suggest

that a William Jones was a witness to Deed No.990 (an Indenture) in

1655.
