Kennedy Space Center

Located on Merritt Island, Florida. Midway between Jacksonville and Miami. Center is northwest of \Cape Canaveral. It is 34 miles long and about 6 miles wide. A total of 13,000 people work at the center as of 2008.

Currently serving as the base for the country’s three space shuttles. “The NASA field center also conducts unmanned civilian launches from adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (operated by the 45th Space Wing).” It has been the launch site fore every U.S. human space flight since 1968. Is the forth- largest building in the world by volume.

Launch operations are conducted at “launch complex 39” where the shuttle’s parts are checked . Then moved to pad 39A for launch. From 1969-1972, LC-39the departure pint for all six Apollo shuttles to the moon.
