Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, has chastised the media for not
going after former Commissioner of Police Winston Felix and Vice Chairman of
the People’s National Congress Reform, Basil Williams, when a tape recording
between the two individuals had surfaced.
When questioned about his alleged involvement in the recent surfacing of a
letter for the purchase of spy equipment for self confessed drug lord, Roger
Khan, Minister Ramsammy denied ever penning the letter.

However, at a press conference held on Saturday, Dr.
Ramsammy lambasted the media for not pursuing the tape recording between Felix
and Williams, but rather pursuing him.
“Why didn’t the media go after Felix when the tape surfaced? The media
didn’t pursue it. The media didn’t pursue Basil Williams, the media
is pursuing me,” Minister Ramsammy said.
According to the Health Minister, there were other allegations that came out
during the Robert Simel’s trial, but he noted that ‘no one seems to be
paying attention to it.’
Minister Ramsammy said that he has no knowledge of the letter and its
contents, as he claimed he never spoke to anyone from the company.
“You know these people should explain who they spoke with and who bought the
equipment. If there is such a letter, we need to look at how they got the
letter.”
Dr. Ramsammy said the person who claimed they sold the equipment on that basis
needs to say who they spoke to and who paid them the money.
“I’m not doubting that they have a letter…I’m simply saying that I
don’t know about these things and I’m being made the one who has to defend
myself, which is unfair. Let us go after these people and ask them who they
sold this thing to? Who paid you this money?”
The Health Minister explained that he has never had so much money in his
possession during his entire lifetime.
“Everything I have in my life, I’ve worked for…I’ve borrowed. I’ve
worked at KFC…I cleaned the toilets and went to school.”
Meanwhile, Ramsammy noted that persons seem to be missing an important point
in the revelations, where the company cannot sell the equipment because they
received a letter.
“They got to get permission from the US government to sell and so you think
any Minister or any part of us in government would be so stupid knowing that
those people have to get permission from the US government…because if all
the right things were not done, is all of us culpable, including the US
government.”
