“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!” – Patches O’Houlihan

The profit from this year's tournament will go to local veterans in a means TBD.

DETAILS

The tournament will be LIMITED to the first 16 teams who register and pay, so don’t delay! Teams can be of mixed gender and age, with an age requirement of 12 years old. (Those under 18 will need parental consent forms signed). The tournament will be double elimination and set up ala the NCAA tournament bracket. Consolation brackets will be formed for each new round of losers.

I will also attempt to set up brackets so friends can play against friends and companies can compete against companies in the first round. (you MUST register before gameday for this)

We will allow teams to register up to 10 players to assist in case of fatigue, injury, or other situations. Only 7 players will take the court in a match though. In 2006, we saw the 10-player rule work to many teams’ advantage. (It’s also a financial advantage, breaking down to only $15 per player)

RULES & REGULATIONS

Best 2/3 Series Each match up will take place is a best 2/3 series until the championship match.

Double Elimination When your team loses in the first bracket, they will move into the consolation bracket. If they lose again, they are eliminated from the tournament.

Attire - No gloves will be permitted. Please dress appropriately and respectfully. Indecent attire can cause you to be suspended from play. Please dress safely as well, as you'll be running around and you don't want to trip over excessively baggy pants or sneakers.

PenaltiesGood sportsmanship will be enforced by the assigned refs and showings of bad sportsmanship and profanity can penalize your team. Your first warning will be just that. The second warning will cost your team a game in your series. A third warning will disqualify you from that round.

Player Eliminations Players can be eliminated from being hit by a live ball (one that hasn’t first touched another object, wall or person) or having the ball they threw caught by the opposing team. If the opposing team catches a ball, an eliminated teammate will NOT re-enter the game! The re-entry rule will only take place in the championship game if BOTH teams agree on it AND time permits. Eliminations can only occur if the ball strikes from the shoulders to the feet. Headshots do not count.

Starting the Game7 players will start behind the back line on each side of the divided court while 5 balls are placed at center court. When the whistle blows, players charge the balls. There is a neutral zone by the centerline, so you can’t be eliminated if in that zone while going for the balls at the start of the game.

NEW RULEDue to circumstances surrounding events in 2006, we have initiated a “FINAL BATTLE” rule. If/when it comes down to a one-on-one situation, the referee will give a “one minute warning.” At that time, the two combatants will have 60 seconds to eliminate their opponent. If both men are still standing after said time, play will be stopped and the FINAL BATTLE will go into play.

Two balls will be placed in play on the out of bounds line at opposite ends of the centerline. Both players will stand at the center mark, and when the whistle is blown, they can dash for the ball to their right. During FINAL BATTLE play, the two players MAY NOT leave the designated neutral zone. Stepping past the back line or over the centerline will cause them to be disqualified and lose the match. If both players cross, the ref will determine who crossed first. If both players fail to eliminate their foe, FINAL BATTLE will be reset and start over.

The Championship SeriesBecause the two teams meeting in the championship game will have uneven records, with one team having been eliminated once and the other having been undefeated, the championship series will be played as follows: Team A - Winners Bracket Winner (4-0) vs. Team B - Consolation Bracket Winner (?-1) in a 2/3 falls match. If Team A wins the series, then the tournament is over, because that will have been Team B’s second series loss. If Team B wins, then both teams have a series loss, and a final 2/3 falls bout takes place to determine the champion.

**Note – a consolation team will have to win one more game than the winner’s bracket team to make the championship. The undefeated team has the luxury of more rest time.

WE NEED REFS!!! We really need refs, whether you can work the entire day or shifts. You will be given free lunch and raffle tickets. You must be fair and firm. This can be a strenuous job and takes a strong and responsible person to stand up for their calls.

REGISTRATION

To register your team, please contact Frank at the above mentioned phone number. To lock your team in, we will need your money.

A lot of teams have expressed interest over the phone, but have yet to pay. Please remember, only the first 16 teams will be accepted. If you can't fill a full team, register your individual players and come down. We'll do our best to pair you up with others to make a full team.

If you are under 18, you MUST have a parent sign a consent form for you to be able to play. Please ask Frank about this. Any other non-registration questions can be emailed to me. Thank you.
