Berlin

Things to see In Berlin

Berlin is the capital and largest city in Germany. It was first established in the year 1237 A.D. It came to prominence though in the nineteenth century when it was the capital of the German-Prussian empire under Otto Von Bismarck. When Bismarck was no longer in office, the Kaiser, Wilhelm II, ascended as Germany's leader but, after the end of World War I, the Kaiser was abdicated and the new Weimar democratic government was established. However, with the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party, Berlin became the capital of the Third Reich from 1933 until 1945, at the end of World War II. Following this, Berlin was divided into 2 separate districts: East Berlin, which was the area controlled by the Soviet Communists, and the West, which was divided among the Allies. The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961. However, with the end of Communism in Russia and other parts of Europe, Berlin was once again unified and the wall was torn down. You can still se portions of it as well as relics from all aspects of Germany's history in Berlin
