An "Unbiased" Voice
Topic: Politics
I love it when things like this happen. The BBC (clearly not a part of the so-called "liberal media") has a great editorial on the RNC that just wrapped up in NYC. I won't reprint the entire thing as I did below with Kaplan, but I will give you choice tidbits and a link if you want to read the whole thing for yourself.

My favorite parts:

[George Bush] criticised Mr Kerry for a policy of "expanding government", saying that Mr Kerry wanted more than two trillion dollars in new federal spending.

George Bush neatly glossed over the fact that he himself has expanded federal spending by 29% since coming to office and sent the budget plummeting into the red.

The "tax and spend" attack on Mr Kerry works partly because that is what many Americans assume Democrats do, despite the fact that former President Bill Clinton successfully balanced his budget.

~~

Every image and every speaker [at the convention] were carefully choreographed to reinforce in the voters' minds the idea of George Bush as a steadfast, principled, say-what-you-mean-and-mean-what-you-say kind of leader.

Not a moment of doubt or hesitation. No mention of the missing weapons of mass destruction. Or the ongoing bloodshed in Iraq, a year after major hostilities were supposed to have ended.

I noticed you didn't have many comments so I thought I would shoot you a note. I was just wondering how miserable you were going to be when President Bush wins again in November? Really, I would be open to considering voting for a Democrat but John Kerry is just terrible. He is clearly not an alternative at this point. Have a nice night! By the way...all political conventions are dog and pony shows so you can't really be shocked no one came across as critical of Iraq.

Hey man,

Quite honestly, I'm not that surprised at the dog and pony show, I was simply trying to give readers the actual facts.

And I have only a glimmer of hope that Kerry will be elected. Unfortunely, the amount of swill the masses are willing to take in limitless. I'm curious to know what you mean, though, about Kerry being "terrible". If you mean he has no charisma and isn't an effective speaker, then I agree with you. If you mean he'd make a terrible president, then I have to beg to differ.

Bush has had four years to prove his case and his track record is a steaming pile of shit. Even before 9/11 we were in a recession and what does he do? Cut taxes for the rich. The number of uninsured is up. The unemployment rate has finally started to go down, but wages are still stagnating. He's cut spending on programs like education while threatening to cut even more if test scores don't come up (No Child Left Behind my ass). He's passed legislation that allows for deforestation.

All this and I haven't even started on Iraq, not to mention Afghanistan. I can't even begin to tell you how I feel about the soldiers over there. I have the utmost respect for anyone in the military and I think our "president" is treating them pretty shabbily, especially as someone who spent his "service time" boozing it up and doing lines in Alabama.
