The Party Members, Past and Present
Beorn: a nine-foot-tall mute troll with a hellish sword, a chimerical parrot, and a desire to specialize in sluagh throwing. He was knighted into House Fiona at Caer Whitehall by Count MacNamara, and is Calistan’s blood brother. Our resident battle monkey, Beorn’s mortal seeming is notably shorter and is tragically named Bradford. He avoids parties and enjoys wrestling with people. Beorn has a strength of seven, which is completely insane, and led to him spending all of his tests fighting something or another. He didn’t like the redcap, but hit off well with Calistan and Cailean after their incident with the dragon. His parrot, Polly, translates his sign language for those who haven’t picked it up. The troll seems to have a knack for chimerical companions… in addition to Polly the Drunken Parrot Sot, he also has an elven steed named Epona.
Beorn is played by Robert.
Cailean: no relation to Calistan, who happens to have the masculine version of her name. A small sluagh tracker with the occasional redcap tendencies, Cailean’s only notable features are her inability to throw rocks and the fact that she’s currently toting around the Sword of Spring, having won the right to do so via rock/paper/scissors and gumming at the pommel. She was knighted into House Fiona at Caer Winter Rose by her employer, Count Saul. Her mortal seeming, Bernie, spends all her out-of-Dreaming time checking her messages and calling her family to assure them she’s not dead. She remains largely indifferent to other characters unless you do something to endear her, in which case she’s a creature of high fidelity. She’s non-confrontational, and if she steps into your fight it’s probably because she feels that she’s in your debt. She is wary of Sorne, has mild disdain for Lady Caroline, and something almost identifiable as camaraderie with Calistan and Beorn. She has an elven steed dubbed “Sullivan,” a gift from Count MacNamara. She’s also responsible for the creation of a religion amongst butterflies, triggered by introducing a butterfly to the concepts of creation and death. The butterfly, Tom, became her companion soon after.
Cailean is played by Nadia.
Calistan: no particular connection to Cailean, who has the feminine version of his name purely by accident. A flamboyant eshu (that’s redundant) with a collection of knives, Calistan became Sir Calistan at Caer Whitehall after slaying a dragon with Beorn. He also happens to be Beorn’s blood brother. Being an eshu, Calistan often acts on impulse and takes detours. He’s a quick thinker, which lead to Sorne the Satyr being his squire. Calistan also seems to have some sort of protective instinct, because he threatened death upon said satyr if he messed with either of their female traveling companions. Calistan made his auspicious arrival into the party by volunteering on a whim to accompany a royal tracker out to find Spike and Grimjaw. He’s good friends with Beorn, nice to Cailean, possibly amused by Lady Caroline, and REALLY amused by Sorne. He has become quite a good cook while on the road, which is but one of his charming qualities. He rides a horse-turned-elven-steed named Dmitri. In his mortal seeming, Calistan is a writer with an outrageously boring name.
Calistan is operated by the storyteller, Will.
Caroline: formerly the ward of redcap Grimjaw, Lady Caroline is a noble of House Fiona who earned her moniker of “Lady Sidhe” from Calistan in the first five minutes that she spent with the party. Having come fresh from her chrysalis and a coma at Caer Winter Rose, Lady Caroline is a bit new at the Dreaming in this life but every bit the sidhe. Her introduction to Calistan, Beorn, and Cailean entailed asking if they had any plates, followed up by asking where the beds were… keep in mind that they were camping on some rocks by the beach at this time. Even if she is prissy (and named her steed “Sunchaser” to boot), she’s not unbearable and will probably be broken of some of her more annoying qualities as she travels. Her mortal seeming, Juli, is a sculptor who made it to Maine by way of art school by way of Kansas. She loves parties and despite having lots of sex at said parties, she hasn’t gotten pregnant. She is also a very vengeful woman, as evidenced by her break-up with an eshu bartender: she exploded his tavern.
Lady Caroline is played by none other than Caroline.
Grimjaw: a now-deceased redcap, Grimjaw seemed to be under the impression that none of his traveling companions liked him. This wasn’t true… at first. Spike disliked him because he had a habit of swooping out of fights and leaving the pooka in the jaws of the wolf. Beorn was a little irritated by the fact that he was always cracking on people. Calistan and Cailean were fairly indifferent to him, and Calistan probably remained apathetic to the end. Cailean began to really dislike him after he threatened to eat her. He really wasn’t such a bad guy, he just did a few stupid things. One of those stupid things was intentionally staring a basilisk in the eye. He died a short while from complications of the manticore. The only person outside of Arcadia who knows how Grimjaw actually died is Cailean, who was sent to get the pommel of the Sword of Spring after the redcap failed.
Before his untimely death, Grimjaw was played by Stroud.
Sorne: a loud-mouthed, psychologically afflicted satyr highwayman. Calistan rescued him from some Balor nobles who were kicking him about for a lark. The eshu had him swear an oath of fealty and made Sorne his squire, going on to duel for the silly goat’s life. Calistan also lay down two ground rules… a) don’t speak unless we tell you to, and b) don’t mess with the girls. Sorne has a harpy fetish triggered by the rest of the party giving him to three harpies as a sex slave. He must be a pretty potent guy, because he managed to impregnate two women at one orgy. He was once repeatedly attacked by Cailean because a butterfly mugged him and took the Sword of Spring.
Sorne is played by Stroud.
Spike: a wolf pooka who was mauled to death in the haunted woods at the beginning of the third session. May he rest in peace.
Before his suicide by cockatiel, Spike was played by Robert.
NPCs
Alec: a troll who happens to be the weapons-master at Caer Winter Rose.
Chick the Jeweler: a boggan at Caer Whitehall who made brooches for Beorn and Calistan and modified Cailean’s tooth necklace.
Count MacNamara: the House Fiona sidhe who presides over Caer Whitehall, which doubles as a very nice resort in the mortal world. He knighted Beorn and Calistan.
Count Saul: the charismatic satyr who runs the freehold of Caer Winter Rose. He’s a charming old goat who really likes his flowers and his parties and can only remember the names of the first thirteen of his forty-something bastard daughters.
Ethan the Smith: the sidhe smith at Caer Whitehall. He made armor and weapons and balanced swords for Calistan, Beorn, and Grimjaw. He also carved a lovely dragon-slaying scene on the shield that Beorn gave to him, and now it hangs in his smithy.
Ferryman, The: an old guy who took Beorn, Calistan, Cailean, and Grimjaw around the lake in exchange for some savory, savory moose. Formerly the owner of a trained gazebo.
Loon, The: I actually forgot about him in the first round of posting. The loon is the one who got us into this mess. He is, tellingly, a loon, and is either a "ballsy" or a "bossy" bird... it depends on who you ask.
Miller, The: a chimera who ate babies until Beorn, Calistan, and Cailean took it on.
Oberon: the fairy king. He battled it out with both Beorn and Calistan, and spoke with Cailean on two occasions.
Olga and Golda: identical troll twins with whom Beorn and Calistan lived for eleven months while in Kissingtown.
Polly: Beorn’s chimerical parrot, Polly likes to drink, swear, eat crackers, and give creatively reinterpreted translations of Beorn’s sign language.
Titania: the fairy queen, encountered in statue and living form by Cailean.
Tom: a chimerical butterfly who became Cailean’s companion. He’s very attached to the sluagh, who accidentally incited religion amongst the butterflies by introducing poor Tom to the concepts of creation and death.
Tom Bombado: the boggan living at Miller’s Field. He has a fat pony and an obese spaniel, and he put Grimjaw to work mending fences.
Wise Woman on the Mountain: more popularly known as the Hag, this is the name that she gives herself. Her name shall remain unknown. Whether she’s chimera or changeling is a complete mystery to me, but she’s a fascinating woman who makes herself puzzling in her straightforwardness.
Wynn: a boggan with an extremely colorful vocabulary. He works for Count Saul, and his duties apparently include monitoring coma victims and fetching the sluagh when she’s needed.
