"Looks like the tournament is ready to promote! Thanks to several of you players who have met with me in person to make suggestions and educate me about DDR, and also to the players who have offered ideas in the DDRFreak forum. Special thanks to I Love Sports, A&S Hats, and Dixie's Dollhouse for donating prizes to sponsor our tournament."
            - Russ Arnold, Fun & Games Galore Manager, Tournament Host

Here is the plan (some changes may be made to tweak things prior to tournament day):
Sign Up Information
  • PLAYERS MAY PREREGISTER AT "A&S HATS" AND AT "I LOVE SPORTS" IN EASTGATE MALL
  • Sign up fee for pre register before the day of the tournament is $6.00 to participate in any one section. If you plan on participating in one level of the Tri-Level Tournament AND participating in Freestyle, then it is $11.00 total.
  • Sign up fee for register on the day of the tournament (from 10 AM till 12 Noon) is $7.00 to participate in any one section. It is an additional $6.00 if you plan on doing both Freestyle and Tri-Level Tournament. ($13.00 Total for both)
  • Freestyle will be subject to enough players signing up. If we don't get enough freestylers, the sign up fee they paid for freestyle will be refunded.
  • Players can only compete in one level of the Tri-level tournament and will sign up for that level of play only (tri-level players can still compete in freestyle).
  • Total competitor sign ups may be limited to insure an even number of players for brackets.

Levels of Competition
  • Tri-Level Tournament
    • Basic Level (Easy)
    • Trick Level (Medium)
    • Maniac Level (Hard)
  • Freestyling Tournament

The Tri-Level Tournament Setup
  • The three levels of play are Basic, Trick, and Maniac and all songs played in each match will correspond to the level of the tournament being played.
  • Each level of the tournament will be played in Bracket Format. Here is an example of what the brackets will look like:
    Brackets
  • Brackets will be assigned at random by drawing player names prior to start of tournament.
  • Players will compete 1 on 1 with the person they are paired up with in the brackets. The winner of each 1 on 1 match advances on to the next round of play.

Scoring and Procedure
  • Tri Level scoring will be based on two songs played in regular "Versus Mode."
  • Each player picks one song and the player not picking the song will pick which pad he/she will use.
  • At the end of each song, players will get 2 points for each "Perfect" and 1 point for each "Great"
  • The score for both songs is then added together and the player with the most points wins.
  • In case of a tie, the person who had the least number of "Miss" is declared the winner. If there is STILL a tie, then a third song will be chosen at random and played as a tiebreaker.
  • In an effort to add interest & excitement to the "Final Maniac Match", this match will feature a third song randomly chosen and played in "Shuffle Mode." The score will be determined the same way, but by using all three songs instead of just two.

The Freestyle Tournament
  • Freestyle competitors will play one song of their choice, you only get one chance so don't screw it up =)
  • A panel of judges will assign points based on performance, technique, & entertainment (no matrix walking allowed)
  • If two people enter to perform a freestyle routine together they will split any prize(s) that they may win.
  • Some judges may be casual observers & some may be DDR players, the panel is meant to be a disperse group of people, some who know about DDR and some who don't
  • The Freestyle Routine which the judges have given the highest score is the Winner

Prizes : The second most important reason we're here (bragging rights being the first, of course)
  • $25 Mall Gift Certificate for Basic Winner
  • $25 Mall Gift Certificate for Maniac Runner Up
  • $50.00 Mall Gift Certificate for Trick Winner
  • $50.00 Mall Gift Certificate for Freestyle Winner
  • $100.00 Mall Gift Certificate for Maniac Winner
  • The following additional prizes will also be awarded by a random drawing of registered player names. Any player who has already won a prize is not eligable to win one from the random drawings.
  • Five $20.00 gift certificates from "I Love Sports" and "A&S Hats."
  • A $25.00 Doll, a $19.50 Doll, and a $14.75 Doll from "Dixie's Doll House."
  • Demo CD Gift Package from "MusicLand"
  • Free T-Shirt of your choice from "Bad Boards"

Miscellaneous Information
  • The Tournament will be played on a Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix Arcade Machine. Be sure you are familiar with the songs from this Mix. Click Here to see the list of songs
  • The Tri-level tournament will begin at 12 noon followed by the Freestyling tournament upon completion. Basic Level first, then Trick Level, then Maniac Level, then Freestyling.
  • The game will be set on free play mode during the tournament play.
  • The machine will be located in the middle of the mall during this tournament, not in the arcade. It will also be there all day on Friday, July 12th (the day before the tournament) for anyone who wants to play it then.
  • We do need volunteers to announce players & award prizes as well as keep track of scores throughout the tournament. If you are interested/willing to do either of these things, please contact RussArnold@aol.com or Aramoug@hotmail.com
  • We will post information on the winners in Fun & Games Galore after the tournament.
  • We have 2 pre-made flyers for the tournament that you can view here. Please print them out and pass them around to anyone/everyone you know.
    Flyer #1
    Flyer #2
  • Tell everyone you know that may be interested in participating and make them join! The more people who participate, the more likely there are to be more tournaments (and prizes)! Even if you don't win, it's still possible to get prizes and have LOTS OF FUN!
  • If you have any further questions about the tournament, feel free to contact me (the creator of this site, not the person hosting the tournament). My AIM/AOL Screen Name is Aramoug and my email is Aramoug@hotmail.com
