Part 1

“Come on, we’re going to Peru to stop a couple of mutants who are trying to take over the area.” Scott instructed the two men who were talking quietly, ignoring him.

“Remy doesn’t like the jungle. Its hot.” Remy said as he reached out a hand to help Bobby up from the floor.

“Not something I have to worry about. Any idea just who these mutants are?” Bobby asked as he followed Remy out to the waiting hanger.

Scott said as everyone settled into their seats, “No, but we’ll split up to cover the area just in case they have any friends. Bobby you and Remy can check the swamps to the west. Kurt and I will check the north. Rogue, you and Warren can take the east. Storm can take the south.”

“How come we get the swamps?” Bobby complained to Remy who was sitting next to him.

“We’re just lucky, mon ami.” Remy replied as he fastened his seat belt.

The plane took off and all was silent apart from Remy and Bobby who were talking animatedly.

Remy and Bobby walked towards the swamps not noticing the way everyone was staring at them. As they walked the pair joked, each one keeping their eyes out for trouble.

Remy looked around the swamps and groaned; sure that he really must have upset Scott this time. But it wasn’t like the X-men to be like that with Bobby maybe it was just bad luck?

“We’ve been looking for three hours and we still haven’t found anything. Maybe we should go back?” Bobby suggested he never wanted to see a swamp again.

Remy nodded and the two made the way to the spot they’d landed at. When they were two hours away, there was the tell tale roar of an engine. Bobby looked at Remy in shock, not wanting his fears to come true.

The pair started running, hoping that what they suspected was happening was all a figment of their imagination. They stared in shock, as the spot where the plane should have been was empty.

They had been left behind; their fellow X-Men had left them behind to die.

“They left us behind. Why did they do it? What have I done wrong?” Bobby said sounding insecure.

Remy was worried; the scene was all too familiar to him. He could understand them leaving him behind, the others didn’t exactly like him but he thought they liked Bobby. Maybe it was just a mistake; Remy thought, knowing inside that there was no way the X-Men would make such a mistake. They had been left on purpose.

“Don’t worry, cher. Remy sure they'll come back.” Remy said placing a hand on Bobby’s shoulder.

“We should look for somewhere to shelter, its going to rain soon.” Bobby said not wanting to dwell on their abandonment.

“There’s a cave an hour away.” Remy said as he took Bobby’s arm, seeing the tremors wracking the younger man’s body.

“What have I done wrong?” Bobby asked once again as they started towards the cave, Remy leading the way.

“Nothing, mon ami. Remy’ll keep you safe.” Remy said as he placed his other arm around his friend.

The next day, Remy used his powers to light a fire and pulled Bobby closer. The younger man was pale and looked like he had given up.

“I don’t think they’re coming back, Rem.” Bobby said as he relaxed into the Cajun’s arms. He couldn’t stop shivering, although he couldn’t figure out the reason why.

“Remy’ll look after you.” Remy said not letting it show how worried he was about Bobby. The other man hadn’t stopped shivering for the past day, despite everything Remy tried nothing worked.

“Thanks Remy.” Bobby said as he fell into a fitful sleep, dreaming of his friends’ betrayal.

Two days later, Logan was pacing angrily he hadn’t seen the Cajun or Bobby for a couple of days whenever he asked where they were everyone said they didn’t know. But he knew there was more too it, everyone was lying he could smell it in their scent. He quickly moved into the shadows, hearing Scot and Storm approaching.

“Do you think Bobby and Remy are still alive?” Scott asked, sounding more curious than concerned.

“No, Peru has had several bad storms in the last couple of days. They were mainly outside Iquitos, where we left Remy and Bobby. It doesn’t really matter if they’re alive, they’ll never make it back.” Storm replied a grin in her voice as the pair left the garden

Logan moved out from the shadows and growled menacingly. The X-men had left two of their own, their friends to die. There was no way he, was going to let that happen, no one would get left behind while he was alive.

Moving to the garage, Logan took out his motorbike and roared out the grounds. He would bring Remy and Bobby back or die trying. Then he would find out just what was really happening. He’d get to Peru one way or another. No one left a soldier behind to die, no matter what the reason. As far as he could see the pair hadn’t done anything wrong.

One day later Logan looked at the forest two days away from Iquitos, he would have been there a lot earlier but he had to take some of the less direct routes just in case the X-men decided to look for him.

Scenting the air, Logan smiled as he detected the faint scent of the pair. It would take a while to find them, but at least he now knew he was on the right track. He would find them; if they were hurt he would make the others pay. He kind of liked the pair, who were always up for a joke.

He stalked through the forest, following the scents, stopping outside a cave. Logan listened and hearing only the sound of two people walked inside.

Bobby snarled as he iced up, “ Don’t come any closer. Have you come to finish the job?”

“What did Remy do?” Remy asked as he reached for his ever-present pack of cards.

“I’m not here to hurt you. I’ve come to bring you back. I didn’t know they left you behind.” Logan said, looking at each of them.

“Remy left behind again.” Remy said looking at Logan suspiciously.

“We’re not going back, they left us here to die. They’ll probably kill us!” Bobby said bitterly.

“I’ll stay with you then.” Logan said as he sat down on the floor. He could understand their feelings but knew they had to find out what had happened to the other x-men.

The three fell into an uncomfortable silence, not knowing what to say to each other. The trust the pair had in Logan had been broken by what had happened. In the three days since they had been abandoned the pair had come to believe the X-men couldn’t be trusted.

Logan looked around, standing guard against any possible enemies; Remy and Bobby had gone to sleep a couple of hours ago. He looked at the pair as Bobby and Remy started shaking and crying. He felt helpless, should he wake the pair up or would that only embarrass them?

At Bobby’s wail Logan decided he’d have to wake them, whatever they were dreaming about seemed to be painful. He gently shook Bobby, shocked when the young man looked straight at him, letting Logan see the hurting, frightened man he was inside before the mask fell.

“Cajun, wake up!” Logan said as he reached out to touch Remy’s back. Before he could make contact, Bobby hit his hand away.

Bobby said apologetically, “He doesn’t like someone approaching him from behind when he’s asleep. You have to let him see you.”

Taking Bobby’s advice, Logan moved so that he was in front of Remy and gently placed his hand on the Cajun’s shoulder shaking him. Remy awoke and froze completely, not moving until Logan was back on the other side of the fire.

“Why did you wake us up? Is someone coming?” Bobby asked afraid, he didn’t know if he could fight his former friends.

“No one’s outside but you were having bad dreams,” Logan said gruffly, wondering at the look in the pair’s eyes.

“We have them every time we sleep since they left us.” Bobby said with a sad grin.

“Remy sorry, he didn’t mean to wake you.” Remy said looking at the floor.

“I wasn’t asleep, I was keeping watch.” Logan said noticing the shock in Remy’s face. Bobby’s face had changed to an unreadable mask.

“You coming back to the X-men?” Logan asked once again.

“They wanted us to die, we can’t go back.” Bobby said his voice full of sadness and anger.

“Just come back until we find out what’s going on with them. If you still want to leave I’ll let you.” Logan said softly, sure that he had to give the pair the choice.

Bobby and Remy looked at each other and communicated in silence, as one they turned back to Logan. With a blank look on his face Bobby said, “We’ll go.”

Part 2

Logan looked back at the sleeping pair periodically as he drove; they had left Peru a day ago and in less than ten minutes would be at Mansion. Just what would happen now that he had brought the pair back? Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea, Logan thought to himself as he took in the tear tracks running down the pair’s faces.

He liked the two, if the others didn’t treat them right he would do something about it. The three had become friends in the last two days, letting down their shields and defences. He looked at the pair as if they were his brothers and had an overwhelming urge to protect them.

Stopping the car he had rented Logan said, “Time to wake up. We’re here.” waking Bobby gently and leaving the other man to wake Remy. The Cajun was grumpy to say the least when he was woken up.

“Oh great (!) Just why are we here again?” Bobby said as he stretched, moving his arm to catch Remy as he accidentally knocked the man to the floor.

“Ya could have just woken me up. Want to leave mon cher?” Remy said, taking in the look of fear in Bobby’s eyes.

“We may as well get it over with.” Bobby said as he opened the car door, pulling Remy out after him.

The three walked together to the large mansion. As they walked inside, Logan felt eyes on them, looking around he couldn’t see anyone but that didn’t mean anything.

“Hey, Hank, Warren. I’m back!” Bobby said as he spied his friends, hoping that they were now back to normal. His expression changed to one of pain as they walked straight past him.

Bobby turned to the two men standing next to him in shock, the tears in his eyes clearly visible. With a grim smile he fixed the mask back in place and said, “I’m going to my room. I’ll see you later.”

“It’ll be okay, Bobby. Remy’ll look after you.” Remy said as he hugged his friend.

“Why don’t you two go and rest while I let everyone know we’re back?” Logan suggested, smiling as the pair hugged him before walking down the corridor towards the bedrooms.

As soon as they were out of sight, Logan let out a growl. He had hoped that whatever was influencing the others had gone but instead it seemed to have become more powerful. How could the X-Men be so cruel to their friends without feeling angry remorse?

Logan headed towards the kitchen, unsurprised to find everyone talking amongst themselves. When he walked inside all conversation stopped, confirming his suspicions that they were after him now. What had the three of them done to receive such treatment?

“Remy and Bobby are back. Hurt either of them and I’ll kill you.” Logan snarled before leaving the room, heading for the exercise room where he could work off some of his aggression.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have come back?” Bobby said as he looked at Remy. The pair where hiding from the others in his room.

Remy gave a ruefully smile as he said, “If something making them be this way we need to stop it. I’m getting something to eat. Want to come?”

“Maybe after everyone’s asleep. Less chance of one of them attacking us that way,” Bobby said thoughtfully. He couldn’t help but think the others would happily kill them.

“D’accord. Remy’ll make sure they are asleep.” Remy said as he stealthily walked out of the room.

At the kitchen he grabbed an apple and ate it as he walked back down to Bobby’s room, hiding in the shadows as he heard people walking past. It was Rogue and Warren laughing and joking. Clearly everyone else was still been nice to each other, it was just he and Bobby everyone hated.

“We have to wait a little.” Remy said as he walked inside Bobby’s room, noting that Logan was now there as well.

“Anyone give you any bother, Remy?” Logan asked worriedly. “Non, I got something t’eat and came back.” Remy replied touched at the concern Logan was showing him. He thanked God for Bobby and Logan, without them he would probably would have given up by now.

Two hours later, Bobby slowly walked out the room followed by Remy. They made their way to the kitchen in silence, keeping alert in case of the others decided to attack.

As they stepped inside the kitchen, Remy relaxed slightly they had made it this far maybe they would be okay? He was ravenous, as they hadn’t eaten until the day Logan found them but he couldn’t find the energy to bother about eating.

He watched with a grin, as Bobby devoured ten sandwiches with little effort. It was just like his friend to eat as much as possible. As Bobby finished eating, Remy stood and placed the plate in the dishwasher.

“Ready to go?” Remy asked, not wanting to hang around any longer than they had too.

“Sure, don’t you want something to eat, Rem?” Bobby said giving Remy a searching look.

“Non.” Remy replied as they walked back to their rooms.

“Goodnight Remy.” Bobby said as Remy opened the door of his room.

“Bien Nuit, Bobby.” Remy said with a grin as he closed his bedroom door, listening to make sure Bobby got into his room okay.

The eerie silence in the mansion was broken by two screams of despair and loss. The occupants listened to the screams in curiosity before turning over and going back to sleep, uncaring of the pain two of their number were feeling.

“Bobby, réveiller s'il vous plait! (please wake up!)” Remy screamed as he jumped, shocked to find he was in his room at the mansion, not in the jungles of Peru.

In his room Bobby Drake slept fitfully arching off the bed as he screamed, “Remy, come back, Remy!”

Remy jumped out of bed and pulled open the door of his bedroom. He needed to make sure that it was only a dream, that Bobby was really alive. He turned the handle, shocked to discover it was unlocked; he had locked his own room just in case.

“Remy, are you okay?” Bobby asked his voice still hoarse from screaming.

Remy walked over to the bed and ran his eyes over Bobby, trying to reassure himself that Bobby was alive and not dread in the jungles of Peru.

“Remy dreamed Bobby died.” Remy replied once he was lucid enough to answer the question.

“I had a dream that you left me alone. You said I wasn’t good enough to be your friend.” Bobby said, tears falling unnoticed from his eyes.

Remy pulled Bobby close, wanting to reassure both of them that they were both alive and weren’t going to desert each other. He gently ran his hands across Bobby’s back, soothing the hitching sobs.

“Remy’s here, won’t leave.” Remy vowed as he pulled Bobby back onto the bed.

The pair fell to sleep, next to each other. Both secure in the knowledge that their friend was alive and well, that they weren’t going to be abandoned by the other. Everyone else may have left them but they still had each other.

Logan snarled he had had enough, for the past three days people who were supposed to be friends had ignored him, Remy and Bobby. As far as he could see there was no other power at play, the X-Men’s actions were there own. Logan walked into the exercise room searching for Scott. Finding his target, he moved to the other man pushing him against the wall. With a thought his claws were out and pointing to Scott’s groin.

Logan said flexing his claws, “Just what is going on? You’re treating us like we’ve killed your best friend. If you don’t tell me I’ll have to cut.”

“You three have to leave. We all know about you three and we won’t let it continue.” Scott said angrily, he struggled but Logan only tightened his grip.

“What do you mean us three?” Logan questioned, his eyes narrowing.

Staring at the angry man Scott snarled, “The Professor found out that Bobby and Remy are lovers and told us that they had to go. That’s why we left them out there. They were supposed to die. But you brought them back and joined them. The Professor said you three aren’t allowed to be lovers, so unless you stop no one is going to have anything to do with you.”

Logan looked at Scott in shock; he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The three had been treated like outcasts, Bobby and Remy had been left to die because the Professor was homophobic. He knew that Bobby and Remy weren’t lovers, sure they shared the same bed but it was the only way they could stop the nightmares.

As he left the room Logan spat, “You never bothered to consider the Professor might be wrong? They aren’t lovers; you almost killed them because of prejudice. The very thing X-men are supposed to be fighting against. How does that make you feel?” Maybe he should just take Remy and Bobby away from the mansion?

Part 3

“Rem, maybe we should just leave.” Bobby said softly as he looked over at the Cajun who was busy messing with the Iceman’s hair.

Propping his head up with his hand, Remy looked over at his obviously scared friend and desperately searched for some way to comfort the younger man. He could cope with moving on, he had done it many times before but he didn’t know if Bobby could.

“If that’s what you want, cher.” Remy said finally, willing to do whatever Bobby asked of him.

“I don’t want to but they’re hurting you and I don’t like to see you hurt. If I leave, you’ll come with me, won’t you? I don’t think I could cope without you.” Bobby looked down at the bed sure Remy would hate him for being so dependent.

“Remy will never leave you.” Remy shifted, feeling uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation.

“You and I forever, Rem.” Bobby said seriously, before grinning, “Want to watch Pinky and the Brain?”

Remy only nodded and gave an indulgent smile, it had become on of their traditions since their friend’s betrayal. They spent the night watching stupid cartoons until half an hour before everyone awoke. It was the only time Bobby would venture out of his room, which Remy shared every night.

Listening carefully, the two made their way through their house. Bobby led the way into the kitchen, hungry as usual. Remy watched his friend eat in awe, personally he just couldn’t seem to find the energy to eat. The only time he could relax was when he was alone with Logan or Bobby and often had no energy to think about mundane things such as eating.

“I really don’t understand your obsession with that cartoon.” Logan said as he walked into the room, noticing how each one relaxed at the sound of his voice.

“What’s not to like? You think the Brain is a little like Magneto?” Bobby said quickly.

“Yeah, maybe that should be his new nickname.” Remy said with a grin.

“You two want to leave with me? I know somewhere we can live safely.” Logan looked at their faces.

“Non, we have to help them.” Remy said seriously, knowing it was his duty to help save his team from whatever had enslaved them, even if their team-mates had tried to kill him.

Logan said intensely, “They’re doing what the Professor told them to. He thought you and Bobby were lovers and said that you had to be killed. They figured I had joined you. It’s ridiculous for a mutant to be prejudiced.”

“They left us to die because he’s homophobic? I can’t believe them!” Bobby said, sending a stream of ice over to the nearest ornament and shattering it.

“We’re coming with you.” Remy said making the choice for both of them they didn’t owe the X-Men anything. Not now, they had all acted on their own free will.

“I guess it’s a good thing I never came out to them.” Bobby whispered to his friends, grinning when they only gave a wry grin in return.

“Oui. Don’t worry, cher, I’ll look after you.” Remy said as he put one arm around Bobby and the three made their way back to Bobby’s room to pack.

“You ready to leave?” Logan asked ten minutes later, he had packed everything he wanted a couple of days ago.

“Yeah, I guess.” Bobby took one last look around the room and walked out not looking back.

“Everything will be okay.” Remy said as he gently pulled the younger man to his side.

The three walked out the Mansion determined to never return. They no longer had any friends apart from each other, but that was fine with them. As long as they had each other they could do anything.

“I know this isn’t the best time to say this but I love you, Rem.” Bobby said as he nestled into Remy’s arms.

“I love you too, Bobby.” Remy said as he gently kissed Bobby, meeting Logan’s knowing eyes in the mirror.

Logan smiled as he drove the car taking them away from the X-Men-the source of his friends’ pain.
