Teutonian Fae Court Structure

Provinces

There are 6 provinces:-

The last time the Vipers we were in the Province of Wood. This was ruled by Lord Wormwood and last year it was the only gate in Arcadia that was currently open. At this current time this may not be the case as there was talk from the Fae Provincial Lords that it was decided that all the gates should be opened.

The Court of the Fae is a mirror of the old monarchy of Teutonia. The provinces correspond to parts of the lands of Teutonia itself. Each province has its own resources some greater in animals for the Hunt, some in the raw materials of the Art and some in the breeding and training of slaves.

Court

The Court works as follows:-

The high king is the head of the Court his name is Erlknog and wears a fairly obvious large silver crown. He is an unseelie fae and is famous for wrestling daemons with his bare hands. He banished his Queen 686 years ago but reunited with her recently in a ceremony.

The king rules by boons and penalties, which are put into practice by the Chancellery, who are his officers. He is responsible for appointing the Chancellery, which has six members. This is going to be increased to seven. These fae are responsible for all types of things including, Taxation, Contracts, Hunts, War, Ceremonies etc.

Each member of the Courts can be recognised easily, usually by the lines on their face. The different colours lines are as follows:-

  • Blood – Red
  • Heart – White
  • Mind – Orange
  • Mountain – Black
  • Sea – Green
  • Wood – Blue

The structure carries on to include the nobles such as; the Provincial Lords. Below the nobles are a number of families, with overlapping interrelationships, these families are not necessarily linked to the provinces.

The Fae nobles have few responsibilities and the real work is done by the lesser types of faerie creatures such as the Boggits and Red Caps.

Fae Etiquette

There are a few simple rules that the Fae will always obey when in the presence of certain people from the court. The higher the social rank of the fae the less they have to stick to any of the following social ettiquette:-

  • Never turn your back on the King and Queen, if you need to remove yourself from their presence then it’s polite to leave backing away from them until you are out of sight. If they are moving around then it is appropriate to adjust yourself so you are always facing them.

  • Never speak before your social superior does. It is always their prerogative to start a conversation. If you are an unranked Fae, your social superiors are the provincial lords, the chancellery and the king. The Fae consider themselves to be superior to those of different races so it’s likely to be the case that when you met a fae unless you are a fae they will take offence at you trying to start a conversation with them.

  • Gifts are taken very seriously. If a gift is accepted and it is not declared if it has been ‘Freely Given’ then an equal one must be given. There is a famous story about a foolish mortal who once accepted a severed arm from a fae and it was not freely given hence the fae in return wanted the same thing he gave.

  • It is a gross breach of etiquette for a Fae to lose their temper; they must remain polite at all times.

  • It is considered extremely unseemly to use your magic against another fae.

  • It is also considered impolite to kill another Fae temporarily. Killing them permanently is considered an unforgivable crime.

  • It is considered rude to thieve from another fae or to let your lesser fae do so.

  • The most important agreements between the fae and others are sealed written contracts. These are considered binding and a fae will not break a contract although unseelie fae may try to twist the contract to get what they want.

  • A royal request or invitation is NEVER refused.

Fae Superstitions

Never attack anyone:-

Who is holding a hagstone
Who is wearing a daisy chain
Who is holding a horse shoe

Teutonian Arcadia

Teutonian Arcadia mirrors the land of the ‘real’ world. The layout and geography is similar and where the Teutonians live is usually where the Fae in Arcadia also reside. The Fae realm is, for the most part, like Teutonia and it is fractured just like Teutonian lands.

What is known as Italia in Arcadia is known as the Province of the Sea and it manifests itself as a land of twisted creatures. There is also new forest growth in the North of the realm which mirrors growth in Teutonia and the Fae do not understand why. The fae have great power within their realm. They can perform acts of great power and magic in Arcadia that would completely astound mortals. It is extraordinarily hard for a Fae to be killed in Arcadia because they can be reborn in the next spring.

However, for reference the most effective way to kill a Fae would be one of two ways :-

1) Corrupting their patterns by the fatal damage caused by some necromantic magics.
2) Cold Iron also know as ‘Fae Bane’

Neither of these is permitted in Arcadia.

The main difference between Arcadia and the ‘real’ world is Ritual Circles – Arcadia does not have them. Instead the ritual circles are manifested in Arcadia as small areas of mist which cannot travel. The Fae do have an interest into how these circles work.

The Great Forest is a specific area of interest to the Fae. This is a place where the mists that divide Arcadia and the mortal realm are the thinnest. Magical creatures can even move between these realms on their own.

Changes in the Great Forest are felt in the Province of the Wood. This is an exception to how Teutonia effects other provinces in Arcadia. Therefore, as the Forest expands so does the province, when the forest fades so does the province.

The Mists of Arcadia

Arcadia is surrounded by mists, which define its boundaries these mists can be so extensive that mortals can get lost for hundreds of years. They are also used to banish the fae who have committed crimes. Only the wisest of the Fae go where they wish in respect of the mists and the Fae who are not wise in the arts of travelling tend to avoid them.

Sometimes these mists can appear in the mortal realm as such, when the boundary between here and Arcadia is particularly thin. Some of these mists have existed since the Beginning, some have arisen since then and some appear from time to time.

There is likely to be a vast amount of knowledge about the fae which I do not possess. The validity of this information can also be suspicious depending on which Fae you talk to and what information they want you to know.
