The First Elves ~ From the Creation Myth of Cymrija

Of The Beginning of Time

At first all was naught but a Void and here strode entropy, complete Chaos. And unto this place came The Dagda, the All-Father, Creator of Worlds. And He looked upon the Chaos and saw that it needed form and purpose.

So The Dagda took to him the Great Cauldron and set it before him. He reached into the Chaos and took the First Element, that we call Water, and filled His Cauldron and he called these waters THE SEAS.

Reaching once again into the Void He took the Second Element, that of Air, and he set above the Cauldron a great dome and called this THE SKIES.

Again, a third time, He took from the Chaos an Element and this he called FIRE , He placed the fire beneath the Cauldron so that the seas boiled and so that the worlds below were hot.

Into this maelstrom of creation he placed the fourth Element and that was called EARTH. And so the world we know was created by the All-Father.

Now The Dagda looked upon this world and saw that it was alone and saw cause to bring life to the cauldron. And so taking a little of each Element he brought forth the first races of the world. These Children he called the LIOS ALFAR and the DRACO ALFAR, The Light Elves and The Dragon Elves and upon them he placed two Laws. The Law of Light and the Law of Magic (the two first so-called Ethereal Elements), and there was peace for an age.

Then came the other Ancestors of the Land. Many Fold and Many Faced were they. Some came with Wonder and the Desire to serve the All-Father and some came with Greed and Envy and sought only the destruction of the Cauldron. And so a Great War was fought first in the heavens and later in the world below the Skies. It was at this time that the other races were made by the Ancestors, both Good and Evil, both Law and Chaos.

As the war raged, Dagda forged a new weapon to place upon the world, a weapon that he called MAN. Man was adaptable and powerful, beyond the scope of the Lios Alfar and the Draco Alfar, and with this weapon Dagda forced the Evil Races back to the hiding places and dark pits that they now inhabit. But the Ancestors that sought to destroy the Cauldron would not be swayed by the petty mewing of man, so Dagda created a new servant, a mighty beast known only as Yr Ddraig, THE DRAGON and unleashed it upon the Evil Ancestors and they fled screaming before its might, into the Void!

And so Dagda believed The War was won and He rested and looked away from the world and began to create other wonders. And many of the Ancestors stood, and still stand with him. Whilst Dagda was turned away, Man; still immortal from Dagda's creation. Had no path to follow and so it was only a matter of time before they turned their swords upon the Lios Alfar and the Draco Alfar and forced them to withdraw from the world back to the embrace of The Dagda there before the Ancestors they told of the deeds of Man. And The Dagda was angered by this tale. So he sought out his mightiest servant, The Dragon with which to punish Man, but the Dragon was amost beyond his power and a great battle was fought. The battle ended when Dagda placed a great silver chain upon Yr Ddraig. And bound in such a manner The Dagda went to man to destroy His creation.

Danu, the Handmaid, Thrice aspect Goddess stood between Man and The Dagda and fell upon Her knees and wept, pleading for the lives of Mortal Man who cowered behind Her, in fear of the might of Dagda and Yr Ddraig, and The Dagda's heart was softened by Her plainting song and so Mankind was spared.

But two great Laws did The Dagda place upon Man, so that they were both punished and controlled. And so these two Laws were The Law of Darkness and The Law of Time, so that Man was bound to die, and that they would have only short lives. And these laws were the last two Ethereal Elements, and were the last Laws of Dagda.

Finally, Dagda took Yr Ddraig and placed the Mighty Dragon beneath the lands, in great slumber, so that the Evil Ancestors could not return and wage war upon the world again. And so it is upon the spine of The Dragon that out land Cymrija stands...

Note: An Elf claiming to be the last of the Dracos Alfar was, until recently, highly ranked amongst the peoples of the Dragon nations. Here follows his obituary;

Brynn ap Ddraig
The last of the Dracos Alfar, Temlydd to the Blaidd Ddu; Brynn ap Ddraig came from the East aeons ago and in the twighlight of his life served as advisor to Ard Rioghan Isabella and Brodarian Owain Craig. He was instrumental in binding the fractious tribes of Cymrija to the Dragon nation and was both Lord of Caer Dannon and Seneschal of the Dragons at the time of his death. He died fighting the Emperor's elite troops in Lantia.
