We found our seats inside, which were conveniently right in front of the Backstreet Boys. I guess they figured that if Krystal won, they'd lose her in the crowd. I sat there next to her holding her hand through the entire show. When they finally announced the award that Krystal was up for, we were praying. I know it sounds weird but this was what we hoped would be the start not only of Krystal's success but also of our life in the spotlight. The phrase "And the winner is..." is such a tense-filled one. We heard "Krystal" come from the presenter's mouth and we both jumped up. In that moment I didn't care who was watching or where we were. I kissed my beautiful little girl full on the lips with the Backstreet Boys standing behind us applauding. When everyone around us noticed us kissing, they stopped applauding, not quite believing their eyes. We broke for air and Krystal hugged Kevin, then Howie and gave the other three high fives before heading up to the stage to retrieve her moon-man trophy. She grabbed my hand and pulled me along, which totally shocked me.
Up the steps we went, and she took the trophy from the presenter and held it above her head. "I am Supergirl!" she proclaimed into the microphone. I stood there beside her and applauded. She then placed the silver award back on the podium and grabbed my hand, pulling me into the shot with her. "I have to thank our Lord and Savior first and foremost for without His Everlasting Love and Grace, I would not stand before you tonight. My parents, who always believed in me. Kevin and the rest of the Boys. My manager Mook, I'll always care for you. The entire Morant family for adopting me into the fold. MTV and the fans of course. I love you all! And my beloved little Becca here," she said, tightening her grip on my hand. I looked over at her and she smiled sweetly. "I love you more than anything." She then tugged at my hand, telling me that she wanted to kiss me. I moved in towards her and tilted my head as she firmly planted her lips to mine. I believe there was a collective gasp from the audience, but I wasn't sure because I was too engrossed in the woman in front of me. She broke the kiss first and waved to the crowd and then we were ushered off the stage together. I couldn't hear what the host was saying, but I knew it couldn't be good.
Krystal went backstage to go talk with Bryan McFadden about the award and I was sitting right there beside her the entire time. Thankfully Bryan didn't ask about us right away, which was a blessing to me. I was back to being invisible. Then he asked, "So Krystal, how long has this been going on?" obviously wanting to know about the relationship.
Krystal sighed. Thankfully we had discussed this and were prepared somewhat. "About six months."
"Where did you two meet?"
Krystal looked at me and I replied, "A coffee shop actually."
I was so glad that Bryan was willing to end the interview there. "Well congratulations Krystal and good luck you two."
"Thank you," we both replied in unison and headed back to our seats. The Boys were obviously shocked at our very public display, but expressed their elation anyway. We decided to leave shortly after that award, mainly because we were both exhausted and there wasn't that much left of the show anyway. The Boys agreed and told us they meet up with us at the hotel later that night.
Krystal and I sneaked out the back and decided to hail a cab instead of taking the limo back. We arrived back at the hotel and quickly disregarded our heels as we ran to the elevator and then down the hall to Krystal's suite. She didn't have her moon-man but that was because it was being engraved. She'd get it in a couple weeks. Krystal quickly unlocked the door and we stumbled into the room, still overjoyed at her success that night. With our shoes hung over our shoulders we gingerly set foot into the room. This time I noticed the rose petals covering the floor and the bed. Krystal took my shoes and set them with hers in the corner. She then started lighting the candles on the nightstand, dresser, piano and table. "I thought we could celebrate," she said to me as she lit the last candle.
"But what if you didn't win?" I asked.
"It's still a time for celebration," she replied taking me in her arms and kissing me yet again. "You didn't die over the fact that we are now known as a couple."
