Franklin was the son of Leo and Mary (Hoffman) Shives and was the husband of Nancy Louise (Spade) Shives. Franklin served our country in the United States Air Force and in the Korean War from October 17, 1951 until he was honorably discharged at Parks Air Force Base, California on October 7, 1955. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a U.N. Service Medal and a Korean Service Medal. Franklin was a skilled aircraft mechanic and retired from The Boeing Company.
