This page exists because of the confusion surrounding the band "Stillwater", after the 2001 film "Almost Famous".

Below you will find information on the five artists that are known to be mislabeled with one of the three artist's known as "Stillwater". Below you will find information on these artists including a biography, band members and a discography.

Any submissions can be made to davidn22 at hotmail dot com. I am looking for back CD covers of the Stillwater bands.

Stillwater 1977, 1979 & 1998

Stillwater are a southern rock group who made two albums in the late 1970s, they were signed to Capricorn Records (home of the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd). They reformed for another album in 1998.

The track listing may vary with different releases. "I Reserve The Right" might also be released with two bonus live tracks "Mind Bender" and "Out On A Limb". "Women" from the album "I Reserve The Right" could be "Women (Beautiful Women)" and "Rock 'N Roll Loser" from the album "Stillwater" could be "Rock & Roll Loser". If someone can verify this can they email me.

Stillwater 2001

Much like Spinal Tap, this band is only fictional. The songs were made to add authenticity to Cameron Crowe's film Almost Famous. Pearl Jam's guitarist Mike McCready, Heart's guitarist and wife to Cameron Crowe, Nancy Wilson, producer Marti Frederickson and Ben Smith made up the band.

The song writing credits go to Crowe and Wilson, Wilson's sister Ann co-wrote "Chance Upon You". Peter Frampton made a large contribution to the album and co-wrote the songs "Hour of Need" and "You Had to Be There".

Stillwaters 1997

Stillwaters come from Elko, NV, U.S.A.. They have released a 5 track EP on independent label with a tight budget. This Christian rock band was formed in 1997 and their debut EP came out a few months later.

I am looking for information on Stillwaters at the moment, they no longer have a listing at mp3.com, you can find three of their tracks here though. I've tried two of Tim's email addresses and emailing the band through iuma.com but have not received a reply. The only other site on the band I could find is here, it has a review and some information.
