Samoan Family Support Services (SFSS)

Our Mission

The Samoan Family Support Services (SFSS) is a nonprofit organization established to assist the Samoan Youth of Pierce County in successful completion of their formal education; to be competitive in the work force: and to provide Parental, Youth, and Community based Prevention Education to diminish the impact of unsafe activities as they relate to family and communities at large. SFSS has developed a tutoring program to improve study habits in a Culturally appropriate setting with the goal of stamping out student dropouts in a smoke-free, drug-free, alcohol-free environment. We teach students to nurture their bicultural differences in a positive manner while creating a support system to maintain, improve, and encourage students to increase their social skills. We encourage students to consider joining a Drama and Arts Class and athletic participation. We offer job placement for students who need financial support based on grade point average and attendance. SFSS also provides parental support by providing parenting education, encouraging parents to participate with their children in school activities, and communication with their children about social problems they face. On an economic level. SFSS is working toward inclusion for the Samoan community in program planning, school activities, and other human services.
