DUMBARTON'S DRUMS
Back to Homepage.

There are male and female versions of this; either Jeannie kneels, or Jamie/Jimmy/Willie does. Dumbarton on the Clyde is an ancient capital of Dalraida; ancient Scotland, and the castle on Dumbarton Rock is well worth a visit. Not a song I enjoy singing, although the melody is simple enough to get a nice three part harmony going.

Dumbarton's Drums

Chorus
Dumbarton's drums, they sound sae bonnie.
When they remind me o' my Jeannie.
Such fond delight, can steal upon me.
When Jeannie kneels and sings tae me.

Across the hills o' burnin' heather,
Dumbarton tolls the hour o' pleasure.
A song of love, that has no measure,
When Jeannie kneels and sings tae me.

Chorus

It's she alone, who can delight me,
As gracefully, she doth invite me.
And when her tender arms enfold me,
The blackest night, can turn and flee.

Chorus

When Jeannie kneels and sings tae me.
When Jeannie kneels and kisses me.
