Susan Kohli Petersen

A memorial

Remember Pictures Email

On Friday, November 22, 2002, we lost a very dear friend. Susan Marie Kohli Petersen was a lifetime resident of Anchorage, Alaska where she lived with her husband Patrick and daughters Tammy and Stacy. She was involved with several causes, frequently helping disadvantaged people. She cared for creatures big and small, going so far as to rescue a skunk, a moose, and even an African lion from a closing zoo who could not find her a home. Patrick came home from a flying trip to find a huge lioness in his living room! She was involved with the American and Alaskan kennel clubs since she was sixteen, breeding and showing various dogs, including Welsh Cardigan Corgi's and Great Pyranees.

Susan was a very talanted artist, and she had a creative touch for everything. Her paintings have won awards and have been seen in several galleries and shows around Anchorage. An avid cook, Susan won first place twice (in a row!) and third place once in the annual Spam cooking competition at the Alaska State fair. She was the Queen of Spam.

Born February 2 of 1956, Susan died peacefully surrounded by friends and family, at the age of 46.

Many people will miss Susan, who was an amazing, colorful, and inspiring woman. Please feel free to post your memories and thoughts about Susan in "Remember". A beautiful service was held at noon on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at Holy Cross Parish, with the Rev. Dan Hebert officiating. Burial was at Angelus Memorial Park, and a celebration of her life followed.

11-27-02 UPDATE: All the pictures are now up! Please feel free to save any of them to your computer and do what you like with them. If you need help, please e-mail me.

11-28-02 UPDATE: I've upgraded the bandwidth, so the connection problems should be taken care of.

11-24-03 UPDATE: Saturday night, November 22, 2003, there was a gathering held by Susan's good friend Sharon at the request of Susan's sister, Theresa, in honor of the one year anniversary of Susan's passing, something we all feel happened far too soon. She was such an amazing woman, and so many people showed up to share in knowing how much we all loved her. I am expecting pictures from the event soon to post here. In keeping with true Susan spirit, it was not a sad place to be Saturday night. People laughed and drank and ate, and recalled wonderful memories of her. There was a toast to her, and a moment of silence to send her our love, and several other small offerings in people's own way. Really, it was more for our sake than for hers, because we all know in our hearts that if there is a heaven, and if anyone ever made it in, it was Susan.

For those coping with loss...
