Apsalos is the second largest town of Almopia and took its name from the abundant water the area had (aptome- alos = akoumbo ti thalassa) which means (touch the sea). It is said that thousands of years ago the place had seawaters.

In 1913, Professor N. Papadakis recorded the existence of two Turkish mosques, which were built with architectural material of ancient buildings. Actually, not far from the village, on the way to Polikarpi is the ancient town of Apsalos. The settlement has the form of a low hill. After works, traces of a fortification wall made of stone from the area were found. All the findings date back from the Hellenistic and Old Christian eras.

Of great interest is an old Christian building with mosaic enhanced with a rich marble decoration.
