CATEGORIES DESCRIPTION

ACROBAT: Music Routine using acrobatic moves

BALLET: Routine consisting of ballet techniques.

CHARACTER: Routine portraying a famous character.

CLOGGING: Routine performing clogging footwork.

HIP HOP: Routine of a combination of choreography of freestyle and street dancing.

INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCES

JAZZ: Routine performing jazz techniques.

LYRICAL: Routine choreographing and performing the story of the music.

MERENGUE: Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic. Routine

MODERN: Routine consisting of abstract movements.

MULTIPLE DANCES: A combination of different styles or new style.

MUSICAL: Routine performing a piece of a famous musical theater.

SALSA: A national dance of Puerto Rico. Routine with a partner dance, solo forms, line dancing (suelta), and Rueda de Casino.

THEATRICAL FOLCLORIC DANCES: Routines perform with professional or amateur training, arranged and set for stage performances, innovation with costumes, footwork, choreograpy and music but originated from folk dances.

TRADITIONAL FOLCORIC DANCES: Routines perform with traditional costumes, footwork, choreography and music. The execution is dominated by an inherited tradition rather than by innovation (although like all folk traditions it does evolve) ethnic

    AWARDS AND CASH PRIZES

    Each performing group will receive a certificate of participation.

    The first, second and third place in each category will receive a trophy and a certificate of participation.

    Only the three highest scores in the competition will receive cash award. All three placements will receive a trophy and a certificate. First place will receive $500 in cash, second place will receive $300 in cash, and third place will receive $200 in cash.

    The groups only will be select from the first, second and third place winners in the International Dance Production Category.

    JUDGES

    The selected panels of judges are known professional in their noticeable careers in dance from different countries.

    All the decisions of the judges are final.

    For the Mexican Folk Competition: This competition is the only one in the United States that brings judges directly from different states in Mexico.

    This event counts on a selected group of artists that support all the activities of the festival. In which some of these professionals are: Dance Instructors, Choreographers, Anthropologist, Investigators (in dance), Musicians, Historians, and Artistic Directors.
