Who WINS?

  Latest Forecasts are predicting that;
By the year 2010 there will be well over 100 Million cashed-up Chinese
Traveling Overseas to spend their Annual Holidays

Is THIS Why our Councillors are in such a hurry to Extend Rwy.18/36?
Even though it is only a Short Term Solution, it would bring this Asian Tourist Dollar within their Range.
Why should they care about a Handful of Aussie Loonies who choose to live on the Flight Path?
Who cares if Their Kids are in DANGER? or  Their Lives are RUINED?
What's a few hundred Aussies worth compared to a Hundred Million Chinese?
And if Council can somehow keep a lid on it and sneak it through without too much publicity.......
And it won't Cost much, compared with doing the job properly.......
After all - they've already STARTED with $5,000,000 worth of Strengthening......
All that's left is $10,000,000 to get Stage ONE up and running.
Then it's just a matter of continuously implementing Stages 2 and 3 until Beijing is within range.
No Wonder they wont Talk to us.
$58M Brideg UpgradeExpensive Bridge At the Progress Assn Meeting on 6/7/06 - Jeff Harris (Deputy CEO) told the frozen assembly that at a cost of $60M, Rwy13/31 was too expensive for Council to give serious consideration to, but a few days later we find that the "Bridge to Nowhere" is to get a $58M UPGRADE and they don't even Bat an Eye. (If the UPGRADE cost $58M, what did the Bridge cost?)
Surely the E/W Runway is MORE IMPORTANT than a Bridge nobody has even driven on yet?

So.... WHO WINS?

The Chinese Tourists WIN.
They now get to choose between the Gold Coast and Us. - And Maroochy will be bending over backwards to lure them Here.  Probably by waving Landing Fees and Promoting Cheap Fares etc.

The AIRLINES will WIN.
For the SAME reasons as Above.  Council will probably let them land FREE.
And the BIG WINNER will be SINGAPORE AIRLINES because they will be in on the Ground Floor thanks to the efforts of The Hon. Tom Barton.   Wonder what TAX Incentives he will offer them this time?

The DEVELOPERS Win.

By crowding More People into the Same Area, the only solution is High Density Development.
Shame about the Traffic Congestion though!  Part of the cost of Development eh? Not OUR Problem!

The TOURIST INDUSTRY Wins.
Er.... Well some of them anyway - A few Dive Boat Operators -  Perhaps the Larger Resorts?
A few Night Clubs perhaps? - Until they are Taken Over by Overseas Interests.
Trouble with Asians is they tend to LOOK AFTER THEIR OWN. (unlike some Australians we know)
They INVENTED the idea of the Package Deal and have since REFINED it.
Most of their Profits remain In the Family. They run their own Tour Services.
At the moment they bring their own Buses up from the Gold Coast to Twin Waters and the like, so when they fly in direct we will SEE more of them, but we won't  BENEFIT from their presence.
And just WHO is the Tourist Industry anyway?  Nobody you or I know that's for sure!

BUT WHO among the ABOVE is powerful enough to stifle any publicity in the MEDIA?
The Regional Newspapers have had a virtual BLACKOUT on any unfavourable Airport News. WHY?

And.... WHO LOSES?

The LOCAL RESIDENTS LOSE.
They lose their relaxed Sunshine Coast Lifestyle, which is replaced by ever increasing NOISE and DANGER.

The SUNSHINE COAST LOSES.
It loses any chance of ever having a Safe Airport.
It loses it's IDENTITY of being a Safe Holiday Destination for the Average Australian Family.
It loses it's Tranquility and everything Decent which attracted Visitors here in the First Place.

And WE LOSE.

We lose BIG TIME - We become another Gold Coast CLONE.
And when the visitors and/or Tourists can't tell the diference between us - the Developers, or whoever is behind this, will move on to the next target community and start the whole process over again.

NEWS FLASH 4/3/2007 - HERE IT IS! - IT'S OFFICIAL - WE'RE THE BIGGEST LOOSER

THE SOLUTION

We've suggested several OPTIONS - ANY of which is BETTER than the one Council is bent on persuing.

But the MAIN Thing at this Point in Time is....
DON'T DO ANYTHING
DESIST from your Plan to Extend the Existing Runway

At least CONSIDER The Alternatives Put to you.
Even though You KNOW WHAT'S BEST for Us.
TRY the novel concept of PUBLIC CONSULTATION.

And Try living up to your Old MOTTO
Maroochy Aspires to be
The Most Caring Local Government in Australia
