    Welcome to adult living at it's finest. There are many inviting rooms and outdoors spaces to be shared with four other residents. All bedrooms have a fireplace, blinds, storage, hand-stripped wood floors, original horsehair plaster and wonderful light and views. The cost of each includes all meals varying from family style to gourmet cuisine. Although many places are within walking distance, transportation will be provided as required. Cable will be provided in each bedroom and local phone service will be available on both floors. Cleaning and laundry will be done weekly for each resident. If climbing stairs poses a problem for prospective residents, a chair lift will be added to the back stairs.
 
 
 
    The Daniels-Stenhouse was built in 1888 and was recently restored by Grandpa's Children Inc. New wiring, plumbing, and two heating/air conditioning units have been installed. Upstairs bedrooms each have their own temperature zone.
 
 
 
    The copper roof, antique glass windows, natural front doors, and natural fish scales are just a few of the exterior features that have been brought back to their original condition.
 
 
 
    The summer house, which held the original kitchen, nestles in the wooded area behind the house. Gardens and a gazebo are being rehabilitated.
 
 
 
    The Plum Tree across the street at 106 South George has two spaces available. It has a lot devoted to gardens and even in December has many flowers still blooming. The interior has incorporated faux finishes in almost all the rooms and features an extensive collection of fine art painting and antiques. Rooms may be furnished or unfurnished for the same price.
 
 
 
    Downtown Goldsboro, with its brick sidewalks, historic lighting and benches, and just planted landscaping is shown behind 106 South George Street.  From June through September the downtown park offers concerts as well as special events throughout the year. Within walking distance are specialty shops including quilting, glassware, arts, crafts and antiques. There are also four "fine food" restaurants in the historic district. There are numerous churches, a theater, and a senior center three blocks away which offers activities and trips.
 
 
 
    The original Borden plantation house is to the south of Plum Tree Gardens. Confederate soldiers used the grounds to camp during the Civil War. Most of the surrounding homes were built for off-spring of the Borden family and the block is often referred to as the "Borden Block".
 
 
 
    The home to the north is a very grand, more formal structure, which was built for the son of the Borden family. The Daniels-Stenhouse was built for the daughter and her husband and is charming but less pretentious.
 
 
 
    The Wayne Center is kitty-corner across the street. It offers many  programs and activities for residents of Wayne County. Their master gardener program may be valuable for residents interested in trying their hand at gardening. Next summer the lot next door will be plowed so it can be used for growing fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.
 
 
 
    The Royal Tea House is located in the next block. It offers Jamaican and English specialties in addition to High Tea. Monthly, residents will dine out at a "fine food" restaurant.
 
 
 
    The front entry features hand-stripped wood front door,  posts, rail, ceiling pendants, stairs, and floors. Original watercolors by Native American artist Dreamweaver can be found displayed throughout the house.
 
 
 
    The Iris living room has a pair of comfortable chairs for reading or entertaining in the four-window bay overlooking gardens across the street and a northern window with a historic home view.
 
 
 
    A settee and chair group from the late nineteenth century complement the large panel doors and living room fireplace.
 
 
 
 
    The Cactus dining room will seat twelve comfortably for those special occasions. The four-bay window, overlooking a historic home, has a smaller, more intimate table in addition to the main seating area. Antiques have been specially chosen for the home.
 
 
 
    The Butler's Pantry has the original wood floor and glass cabinets. It also has a second refrigerator for residents' personal food and beverage storage.
 
 
 
    The large open kitchen has the original cabinets with new ones built around the old drain board sink and new dishwasher. A beaded board wood ceiling has been added.
 
 
 
    This old cabinet was stored on the screen porch and was the perfect piece for the corner of the kitchen. The original cabinets and wood floor are shown.
 
 
 
 
    Off the kitchen is the original screen porch with an antique swing and full wood boxes for the seven working fireplaces. An enclosed wood deck has been added which may be accessed from the porch and overlooks the summer house and neighboring historic homes.
 
 
 
    A colorful enclosed back porch has a new half bath and utility room with extra storage space. Should climbing stairs pose a problem for any resident, a chair lift will be added to the back stairs.
 
 
 
    There are two walls of book cases and a second cable hook up. It is said that Dr. Stenhouse, the last resident, burned a fire winter and summer in the library fireplace. He ran for Congress when he was over one hundred years old and appeared on the Johnnie Carson show.
 
 
 
 
    The library has a private entrance as well as entry from the back foyer, It has a four-bay window which overlooks the plantation house on the south. The library/master bedroom/bath suite costs $ 1500.00 per month all inclusive.
 
 
 
 
    The Violet Sachet lower master bedroom has windows on the south overlooking the original Borden plantation house. The door to the left of the fireplace leads to a full bath and the one to the right leads to a walk-in closet which also opens onto the back porch.
 
 
 
    The full bath features all original fixtures, wall tile and medicine cabinets. The window has a view of the plantation house on the south. The second window in the full bath overlooks the wooded/garden area on the west.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
    The upstairs landing at the head of the stairs is sunny most of the day. It overlooks the gardens on the east and the plantation house on the south. The area is inviting for reading, knitting, visiting or entertaining friends.
 
 
    The Peach Organza bedroom has a three-window bay on the east which overlooks the Plum Tree and gardens across the street. A window on the north views a historic home. One door enters from the landing and the other from the back foyer. This bedroom will share a same sex bath with the Pansy bedroom. The cost is $1200.00 per month all inclusive.
 
 
 
 
    The Sleeping Porch Bath will be shared by two residents. It has a separate toilet room and a separate tub room with a large shared space. Each occupant will have a private sink and closet space.
 
 
 
    During warm weather the windows on the sleeping porch will open to the wooded/garden area in the back and overlook the summer house. All fixtures and partitions are new and the rest is original porch ceiling, walls, floors and cabinets. Each occupant will have a personal cabinet for storage.
 
 
 
    The Pansy bedroom has views in three directions. It overlooks the gardens on the east, plantation house on the south, and woods/gardens on the west. This bedroom will share a bath with the Peach bedroom. The cost is $1200.00 per month all inclusive.
 
 
 
    The Meadowland bedroom has a four-bay window which overlooks the historic home on the north and an eastern window which overlooks the Plum Tree and gardens across the street. It has a fireplace and an adjoining bath and walk-in closet. The cost is $1300.00 per month all inclusive.
 
 
 
    The Meadowland bath has original tub, pedestal sink, medicine cabinet, accessories and wood floor. The commode is new. It has a large walk-in closet and the only shower in the home. Beaded board has been added to the walls.
 
 
 
    The Blackberry Ice bedroom has an adjoining bath and separate dressing room with built-in storage and two closets. The dressing room also opens to a private balcony overlooking the woods/gardens and summer house at the back. The upper master bedroom and dressing area have windows which view the plantation house on the south. The dressing area also overlooks the woods. The cost is $1400.00 per month all inclusive.
 
 
 
    The Blackberry Ice bath has all original fixtures, medicine cabinets, floor tiles and scored concrete walls. It has a built-in linen closet and overlooks the balcony. Shown is the door entering from the back foyer. The second door leads from the bedroom.
