For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The Tender Heart
Why did they nail Him to that tree
Why did they hate Him so,
Why did they laugh at His weakness
And such derision show.
Why did they plot His utter end
Why seek only to destroy,
Why did they twist His loving words
With only blame the cruel ploy.
Where did they get the notion
To plan this brutal terror,
For such a tender heart
And not perceive their error.
What was their driving force
To silence all His grace,
Why were they filled with venom,
When love stared them in the face.
Why drive gentle Jesus to His knees,
A crumbling bleeding mess,
Why thrust the dagger in so deep,
Then twist it in His chest.
Where does man get all this fury,?
This bitter angry hate,
Why can't it be stopped
Why doesn't it abate.
Who can stop them in their tracks,
And turn the hostile enemy,
Melt the harsh, the cold, the pride
And quell the enmity.
What has that much strength
What has that much power,
What can melt the heart of man
And make him meekly cower.
Only a weak slaughtered lamb could suffice,
By the shedding of His precious blood,
The dominion of raging sin was defeated
To terminate the seething flood.
When we accept and confess our part in this,
Forgiveness and new life He will impart
For as His precious blood covers all our sin
We receive His tender heart.
