Suite du Quêteux Tremblay

Two Métis tunes

This set is just harmonica accompanied the old fashioned way, with foot tapping. The first tune is a version of Drops of Brandy that came from Reg Bouvette by way of Henry Gardipy, whose version can be heard on the anthology of Métis fiddling Drops of Brandy Drops of Brandy. It has three sections, each in a different times signature (3 + 3 +4, then 5, then 4). The second tune, Hay in the Loft Two-Step, comes from the repertoire of Lawrence "Teddy Boy" Houle as recorded on a now out-of-print Sunshine LP. It's remarkable in that its beat and phrase structure are not what one might expect given its name. Each section of the tune is fifteen beats long, with the A section consisting of three measures of five beats each and the B section consisting of 5 + 2 + 4 + 4. Click here to listen.
