Stories and Crafts
are universal; they go hand in hand.
They can come from anywhere, and do, and they can go everywhere
… appeal to any age. And they do. Sometimes,
this amazes us. And we were
amazed, again, this year … as, over the course of Folklore Village’s
56th Annual Mid-Winter festival, Celeste and I were joined by
young and old alike in the active pursuit of Story-telling and
accompanying hands-on craft experiences … .

Winter
Tales
“How Bear Lost His Tail” … involves a very cold wind, a lake, a crafty Fox, a very hungry bully-of-a-Bear … and a fishing expedition that teaches Bear a lesson he remembers to this very day. This we followed by a Russian story – “Ivan and the Firebird.” Take three brothers and a father (who happens to be a Tsar) with a magical secret …and add a bit more of magic -- okay … add a lot of magic – including a magical, talking, hungry great-grandfather wolf who takes Prince Ivan into his care – and it makes for a very good tale. There is a quest; there is justice and treachery … and, of course, there is a happy ending. |
