Sufi Prayer for Peace

written by Hazrat Inayat Khan,
founder of The Sufi Order of the West in about 1910
contributed by Diane Boulais

Send thy peace oh Lord,
which is perfect and everlasting,
that our souls may radiate peace.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that we may speak,
act and think harmoniously.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that we may be contented and thankful
for thy bountiful gifts.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that amidst our worldly strife
we may enjoy thy bliss.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that we may endure all, tolerate all,
in the thought of thy grace and mercy.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that our lives may become a divine vision
and in thy light all darkness will vanish.
Send thy peace oh Lord,
that we thy children on earth
may all unite in one family.

A Prayer for Peace

written by Joseph Pinatauro
contributed by Diann Neil Engblade

All we ask, God, is to be safe from the rain,
just warm enough in winter
to watch the snow with a smile,
have enough to eat so that our hunger
will not turn us to angry beasts,
and sanity enough to make justice
that will not kill our love of life.

The Great Invocation (1936)

Let the Forces of Light bring illumination to mankind.
Let the Spirit of Peace be spread abroad.
May men of goodwill everywhere meet in a spirit of cooperation.
May forgiveness on the part of all men be the keynote at this time.
Let Power attend the efforts of the Great Ones.
So let it be and help us to do our part.

The Great Invocation (1945)

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men –
The purpose which the Master knows and serves.
From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

These two versions of The Great Invocation
have been translated into over 70 languages.
