Just a Mirage...?
Without a doubt the talking point of the
night......sorry, past few months.....has been Lindsey's transformation from
70's Rumours Tour Lindsey into 80's Mirage Tour Lindsey... (sounds like a line
of Barbie's!). I tell you there have been more than a few
conversations on MSN about this - if it would work or not and what we thought
about it. I have to say I was mightily sceptical. I'm from
the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school and I wasn't too sure if
the change would work....of course it worked!
It worked because a lot of time and effort
went into not only changing the look, but they way that
Lindsey
acted on stage. If you watch the video of the Mirage Tour and compare it
to footage from the 70's, you see that Lindsey Buckingham is far more
aggressive in the way he stomps and strides around the stage during the Mirage
tour, and he's a lot more physical in general. So that is what Lindsey
from FB has done - not only does the 'uniform' change but the stage presence does
too, and that's why it works. And boy did he work....I think I've only
seen Tony Blair sweat more!
There was one other very important
personnel change, a new 'Mick' - making his Firefly debut infront of the
massed ranks of us all...well, all eleven of us! We all thought he
looked and played every bit the part - well done !!!!! I'm sure
the rest of the band members will warn you about the Fireflies in time...
Watch out for Gem M....that M stands for Maneater ;-)
I'm in for it now... watch those smilies fly on
MSN!
Christine was in a lovely sparkly top and
is also continuing to
blossom and sparkle as we hear more of her.....although it should be made a
criminal offence to talk during Songbird..! Stevie came on stage at one
point in a beautiful black and silver shawl - lots of 'oooh's' from our side
of the dancefloor! Oh I've said nothing about John...You were
wonderful as always!
Set list for this evening - NEW songs in
asterisks
Don't Stop / Gold Dust Woman / Everywhere
/ I'm So Afraid / Sara / Oh Well / Seven Wonders / Big Love / Gypsy / Green
Manalishi / You Make Loving Fun / Never Going Back Again / Songbird / Eyes of
the World / Dreams / ** Say That You Love Me ** / Sisters of the Moon / **
Little Lies ** / Rhiannon / Go Your Own Way / ** Isn't it Midnight ** /
The Chain.
Musically it was another exceptional show
- sounded really tight. I know I keep saying that they just sound better
and better - well they do and believe me they are pretty close to perfection
now! I was really looking forward to hearing 'Isn't it Midnight' - it
totally rocked and for me shares joint honours for song of the night with '
Say That You Love Me'. STYLM is virtually impossible to get through now
without wanting to put the Ooh-la-la-la's on there
from
the Dance album....so we did...badly! . You'll be relieved to know
that Fireflies are not available for backing singer duties! It was quite
sometime after the show that I suddenly realised that there was none of
Stevie's solo stuff in there this evening, and you know what... I didn't
really miss it, although please tell me that Edge of 17 hasn't disappeared off
the radar, I would like to go completely mental one in a while!
We moved around a bit in our own little
corner of the dancefloor trying to keep out of everyone's way and out of Mikes
during Gypsy, but there was a couple of ladies from the Matt Pearce Fan Club
flinging themselves around the dancefloor: Mating ritual...? aerobic
workout...? who knows...gave us a laugh anyway!
Speaking of laughs I very nearly had to
pull over onto the hard shoulder on the motorway after I'd dropped Pip off
back home...I nearly split my sides laughing at who the 'new Lindsey' reminds
me of.....
...and if you're very nice to me I'll tell
you...
...infact I was laughing so hard that I
ran over a rabbit on the way home...ewwwwwww! ...sorry if you were
having your breakfast!
