THE WOMEN IN THE ROCK

Mrs. Warren's statement was written directly after she left the jail herself in April 2004.

While in jail, I was refused Ibuprophen for pain from back surgery.  I was refused my prescription medication because the bottles were from a Washington State pharmacy.  They made me keep my contacts in for five days before I was allowed my contact solution.

For the first three days I was there, I had no bed, no blanket nor mat.  I slept on the concrete floor.

While in jail, I and several other women in E-1 witnessed guards  kicking, beating, and hitting a male inmate with sticks or clubs of some sort.  He was in the next cell.  We heard the whole thing and the inmate did not instigate the incident at all.

We were not allowed a light in the shower.

17 women were in the 6 man cell.  The toilet was broken, running on the floor where we were sleeping.

When I asked for my rights to be read to me, Deputy Alexander told me I have no rights in Stephens County.  I was repeatedly questioned after asking for a lawyer.  Debbie Walker told me I didn't have the right to have an attorney present.

I was denied my 1st Amendment Right to have a court appointed lawyer.
