Big Chimney Baits FAQ Page

How many people are in your company?

It's just me. I do it all myself. Keep this in mind when you order because it may take a week or two at times To get your order shipped. This is the exception, not the rule. If I am getting a lot of orders, or I am out of something, it may take a while to get you done. I am working on getting a good stock pile done so I can avoid delays, but it's going to take a while to get where I need to be. It seems you guys know what I don't have, and thats what everybody wants!

How long does it take to make your lures?

I have from 3/4 of an hour to 1 1/2 hours in each lure. Thats not to say I set down and an hour latter I have a lure, that's accumulated time. It takes a couple days to run them through the process. I can make a dozen in the same time as I can make one. Their is a lot of down time waiting for glue, putty, paint, or clear coat to dry.

How much work is actually done by hand?

I have small table top band saw, belt disk sander, and drill press that I use to make and shape the basic bodies. The rest is done by hand. Each bait is rounded, on the edges, with a sanding block, hand painted with an air brush, placed on a machine of my own design that keeps the lure turning while I hand pour 1/4oz, on the little "000 SHAD", to 1 1/2ozs, on the "Fatdad", of clear coat on each bait.

How long have you been making lures?

I started making lures in 1989 as a hobby, because good musky baits were hard to find around here. That seemed weird to me because Jack Cobb was about 10 miles down the road and Bill Crane was about 40 or 50 miles away. All their bait were leaving the state I guess.

Do you do special color patterns?

Yep! Send a detailed description or a picture, or a URL of a picture and I'll give it a try. If it's something I don't think I can do I'll let you know, Shucks I'll let you know either way!

Why balsa wood?

Balsa is about the most buoyant wood there is, and believe it or not is stronger, pound for pound, than oak. It is VERY light and easy to work with, unless you get a little wild with the sanding block then it's dust! If too much weight isn't added it will fight to get back to the surface of the water even while moving giving it incredible action, especially after you learn to manipulate the action with the placement of the weight you add!

How long will it take to get my order?

That all depends on how long it takes to get my money,,,,RRRR or Ha Ha, which ever you prefer! If I have it made up I can ship the minute I get your check, I hope to get set up to take credit cards and checks electronicly one of these years.(Those people want a fortune for their services). If I don't have your order made when you place it, in most cases I can have it ready to go by the time your check gets here. That's why I like you to order through E-mail, it gives me a chance to get your order made while I'm waiting for the $$$$! I will also put your name on the bait, under the clear coat, if you wish!
