I received this e-mail today (02/05/01)from Robert Karas, The message speaks for itself. We lost one of the most respected officers that I ever served under while aboard the Henderson.
Subject: Flash Rept---Guy Doty
"The USS Henderson's second oldest crew member, LCDR Guy Doty USN (Ret.) passed away peacefully in his sleep on 3 Feb 2001. Guy was an active participant at the ship's reunions until failing health precluded his participation. As a Gunners Mate, Mr. Doty survived the bombing of the USS Marblehead at the beginning of WWII and helped bring the badly damaged ship safely home. He then served as a Warrant Gunner on the USS Hancock and was involved in many actions and several kamikaze attacks. His final sea duty was as Gunnery Officer of the USS Henderson, where he received the Bronze Star and Combat V for meritorious action at Inchon with the famous "Sitting Ducks". Funeral services will be held on Sat., Feb 10 at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Prunedale, 17716 Pesante Road, Prunedale, CA 93907 "

I remember Mr. Doty well. He was an inspiration to all that knew him and was the only "mustang" officer that I ever met.
