Uriah's Lake

Part 4

Uriah stared at Dover with hatred in his eyes. He
spent his years chasing the evil creature. And now
he went and bit a human, again. Uriah held the half
human, half lake dweller in his arms as tight as he
could. He could feel her changing, even though she
couldn't. He wished he could cry for her, and show
her the tears.

Uriah watched as Dover backed away and swam
into the darkness. He loosened his grip on the woman
without realizing.

--------

Rachel turned to see her capture. Her eyes widened
at the sight. Before her was a creature almost like the
other, but bigger. Her eyes reached his eyes, and what
she saw was not anger, but pain.

They stared at each other in silence, studying each other.

------------

He had to take her back to his lair...his home. He couldn't
leave her to Dover, or the others. He never thought there
would be a day that he would have to explain the mystery
of the Lake.

Uriah sighed, and took her hand. He was relieved she fol-
lowed him easily. He looked around to see if the dwellers
were watching. Only a few of the curious lingered in the
shadows. They knew better than to cross their master.

-----------

She watched as even the fish parted a path for this creature
to go through. Even man seemed to be ruler beneath the sea.
A man, she thought? She looked at the hand that led her.
Definately a man. There were so many questions, but would
she be able to ask them.

-------

They entered a small cavern, and he let go of her hand. He
swam towards the surface, and stopped to look back at the
woman below. He waved for her to follow, and she pushed
through the water towards him with ease. As they broke the
surface, it was the first gush of air she had felt since she
went under hours before.

Rachel began to choke from air, not water.

"Relax." Uriah said, as his emerald
green eyes stared at her in sadness.

Rachel lay back in the water, and stared at the man and
tried to relax. She then pulled her self out of the water,
and into a small pool off to the side. She followed the
man and sat next to him under a soft waterfall.

"This was never meant to happen....none of it." Uriah
said in sadness. He let the waterfall touch his gills and
breathed again.

Rachel was afraid to speak, mainly be-
cause she couldn't find the right words.

"What are we? Who are you?" She finally said,
and then followed his movements under the waterfall.

"I am Uriah, Dweller of the Lake." He said with a sigh.
" Listen closely, fore when i am
done, your change will be compete."

Rachel began to cry.
