Mary ran home from the bus stop. She was very excited.
Her
mother had bought a new kitten, and was going to let her
name
it. The run from the bus stop to home seemed like it was a
mile.
Sweat ran down her face, making it look like she was
crying.
She looked in her room, the kitten wasn't there. She
looked in
her mothers room, still the kitten wasn't anywhere to be
found.
Tears filled Mary's eyes for real this time. Had her mother
forgotten, she wondered?
She started to pace from room to room. She waited
impatiently
for what seemed like hours, when it was only minutes. She
watched the clock, and tried to hold back the tears that
tried
to slide down her cheeks.
Mary heard the sound of the car door slam shut, making
her
jump at least three feet in the air. Her mother was home!
Mary closed her eyes as she heard the door open. She
closed her eyes and placed a hand over them as well. She
didn't want to see her mother walk in empty handed. Mary
sure did want that kitten.
Something prickly touched Mary's nose. What was that,
she
wondered?
She opened her eyes to see the back of her hand. She
peeked
through her hand and looked wide eyed at the sight before
her.
Whiskers filled her sight. She pulled her hand down to see
the
kitten before her.
A soft pink tongue licked at Mary's nose making her
giggle. A
beautiful black and silver kitten sat in her mothers hand,
waiting
for Mary to hold her. Suddenly Mary began to cry again.
This
time the tears were of joy.She now had a new best
friend,
a new best friend she named Siam.
