It was amazing how one healed here, Rachel thought. There was no
pain now, only
blood splattered everywhere. The only pain she had was now mental.
She watched,
as Sargatanis wrapped the small baby she had miscarried, into a piece
of her
dress. He tossed the lifeless body into the trash.
"Burn this." Sargatanis said, handing the trash to a guard.
"Sir." The guard said, as he took the basket.
"What...go." Saragatnis said, pushing the basket into the guards
stomach.
Blood seeped through the cracks of the basket, and onto the
floor.
Rachel pulled her eyes away from the basket, and put hands
over her ears. She was starting to feel numb, empty.
"You will have a child by me, no one else but me." Sargatanis said,
as he stood
in front of her. "You are now my wife." He said with a smile. He took
one of her
hands away from her ear, and kissed it.
"Never. You aren't even whole anymore." She spat back,
and jerked her hand away from him.
A shimmer of Bryce appeared before her, and then vanished as quickly
as it the
vision had appeared. "Ah yes, the body I took. I've listened to this
mans
thoughts, he is a strong one. He's given up fighting me, he's giving
in to the
thought of himself going mad. His seed will hunger, just as I."
Sargatanis
replied, as he kneeled before her. "Don't fight me Rachel, I don't
want to hurt
you." He said with a half smile on his face.
Rachel sat staring at him. There was no one there to help her, no one
to hear
her scream. She felt as he touched her cheek, and felt as his hand
cupped her
breast. Why couldn't she control her own dream, she wondered.
Sargatanis snickered, as he ripped open her dress, and nuzzled her
breasts.

"I came to late!" Chris said, as he punched his fist in his hand.
"We all came to late." Shadow said, as she walked
next to the horse Chris rode on.
They watched as Puck's horse galloped ahead of them. Puck had
Sharlette's head
on a poll. He wanted to keep the head as far away from the body as he
possibly
could.
"I should have helped her, Shadow." Chris replied.
"You were knocked out baby." Shadow said, as tears filled her
eyes.
She looked away from him, she didn't want him to see she was
starting
to fall apart.
"I keep wondering what Sharlette meant by "Safe Haven"? It's been
rolling around
in my head since we left. She said it right before I cut off her
head." Dwayne
said, speaking for the first time since he watched Sharlette die.
"She started to fall before you cut her head off." Jessica
said, as she trotted past Dwayne.
"I noticed that too." Shadow says as she stops her horse.
"I need to talk to Anna." Dwayne kicked his horse into
a run. He needed to talk to Anna, questions needed to be
answered.
------
Anna screamed as she saw Puck ride up with Sharlette's head
on a poll. She held on to the door handle, tempted to leave her
sanctuary.
"No miss..don't do it." Ferris said, as he pulled her hand away from
the door.
Ferris walked out on the porch to great the small group as they
returned. He stared at Sharlette's head and let out a small
yelp.
"If you don't mind me askin'. Where is the body?" Ferris asked
Puck.
Puck looked up at him, as he dug the poll into the ground. "Far
away." Puck
replied. The poll stood as a reminder for any of Sargatanis' men, if
they
decided to visit again. "Swamp food."
Puck stepped past him, and into the house. He walked
passed Anna, who stared at him blindly.
"I wish you wouldn't leave that there, it gives me
the creeps." Jessica said, as she stare at the head.
"Don't look at it." Dwayne said, as he moved
past her, and quickly into the house in search of Anna.
Shadow pushed Jessica into the house, tripping as they went.
"Watch out bitch." Jessica yelped, as she fell into Ferris.
"Sorry miss." Ferris says, as he helps her to her feet.
"Don't touch me!" Jessica said, as she brushed herself off.
Shadow entered the tea room in time to see Dwayne
holding Anna against the wall, with his hand around her throat.
"Dwayne!! Stop!" Shadow screams.
Anger had Dwayne hot. He stared into Anna's cold eyes. "Is there
any feeling left in you?" He slammed a palm onto the wall beside
her
face, and watched her wince. "We got there too late!!"
"NO!! oh no!!" Anna said, and closed her eyes.
"Look at me!!" Dwayne growled at her. "Believe me, Sharlette
is the only one i want to decapitate. I killed her, Anna. Sargatanis
has Rachel. You hear me!! He has Rachel!" He screamed, as tears
ran down his cheek. "She was bleeding to death."
"He won't let her die." Anna replied.
"She may as well be dead." Dwayne replied, and hit the
wall with his palm again. "After she bears him a son, she is dead.
He won't need her anymore."
"Can't you stop him?" Shadow said, as she slowly
pulled Dwayne away from Anna.
Dwayne sat on the floor, to weak to stand.
"Why can't you go out of this house? Sargatanis thinks
you are dead, doesn't he?" Dwayne asks.
Anna sighs and puts her arms over her shoulders.
"What the hell does "Safe Haven" mean?" Shadow asks, stepping up
to Anna.
Anna steps away from her. "I don't know." Anna replies. Anna puts her
hands to
her face, and rubs her eyes. "I can't think..I can't...." She says
and starts to
cry.
Dwayne started to rock as he sat on the floor. They were going to
have to fight
this battle alone if they were to get Rachel back. No Anna, No
Sharlette. He
needed to focus. He sat, rocking back and forth, as the tears dried
on his face.
