"They Beat the Hell Outta Dallas Price"
NOTE: Dallas has been in CM since 1996!
Monday, September 30, 2002:
On Saturday night, Sept. 27th, 2002, A guard reportedly destroyed Dallas Price's radio. Then I received word that Inmate Price was beaten severely. The guards were talking loudly and I was told that they told him, "We're going to kill you for your testimony"
On October 7th, 2002, after inspectors left the prison, Dallas Price was beaten again in the showers ...Witnesses say he was beaten almost unconscious!!!
Those who witnessed Dallas Price's beating on Sept 27th - and know of the last beating this past Oct 7 after the inspectors left - are fearful that MORE retaliation will come if this information is divulged. AND I feel they are right. Giving out names will most certainly cause more trouble for the witnesses and their families. That's the way the DOC works...
Dallas was probably beaten as retaliation for blowing the proverbial whistle. He wrote that "guards 'drop' inmates' trays and say "they refused to eat"... This Guard Game has been reported many times and appears to have been a popular sport with guards throughout the Florida DOC prisons for a long time...
Dallas validated other prisoners' claims that they are being literally STARVED at Santa Rosa, indeed throughout the Florida prisons.
He and other prisoners have reported that the officers are "beating all that they can...almost like they're in a contest to see who can give out the worst punishment..."
Warden Petrovsky, of course, denies everything. He claims he monitors CM closely and even personally keeps track of the chemical agents used and every time agents are used, the prisoners are given three warnings ahead of time. Petrovsky says the rules are that the spraying has to be approved by the Captain and acting Warden. Then, he goes on, "the [sprayed] inmate is immediately cleaned off and given medical attention." That's his tale I'm sitting on mine.
"No one is being starved" according to Petrovsky, and "Dallas needs to quit irritating the officers if he wants to be left alone."
The inmates say Warden Petrovsky's statements simply aren't true, his rules are not being followed by his guards and he does not double check to enforce
them. Petrovsky is known among his guards to be gullible. He believes his guards and then the guards laugh and make fun of him behind his back.
Petrovsky was told by a family member, "Your prison has been named the worse in Florida and he reportedly replied, "That's great," then he immediately said, "Maybe I shouldn't have said that."
When asked, "When was the last time you did a real walk through of CM
and looked at the inmates to see if any are being starved or beaten?"
he responded, "I've been busy moving Hendry CI inmates here because their closing that prison and all their inmates are coming here."
It was reported to me by a family member that Warden Petrovsky did say that Florida DOC Inspector General Fred Schuknecht and he are using some prisoners and family members as test role models for CM visits to see if a visit from a CM's family helps or hinders their process. So some families are supposedly going to be allowed more visits and contact with their prisoner.
Many inmates are scared to death of a black Sergeant on nights, who, if he finds out an inmate has talked, gives them hell. He's the one that reportedly beat Dallas Price. Reports also state that he beat another inmate because the guard had a dream that the inmate threw water in his face. The guard
was reported to have gassed and beat the subject of his dream for his own
dream. I'd suggest this guard has been working way too long in the
DOC.
Warden Petrovsky said all the inmates hate him because he's tough and goes strictly by the book, so they make up things on him. I know other tough wardens who go 'strictly by the book' [RE: Clyde Keels at Quincy CI whom his prisoners admired]. So, what's the problem at Santa Rosa?

Someone should contact the Inspector general's office Schuknecht.fred@mail.dc.state.fl.us. Give them details. They will investigate, but you know how those investigations go. But at least they have been made aware.
