Coral Reef Executive Aquarium will set up a maintenance schedule for you that will insure a clean and smooth running aquarium, and leave you a personalized set of instructions that will direct you as to the feeding routine needed for your particular aquarium size and fish type.
This section of the website will offer you advice on things you can do that will help keep your aquarium in tip-top shape between maintenance visits.
Charles Gaither can be reached via his 24 hour pager for aquarium emergencies (813) 219-8365
  1. The number one most important piece of advice I have to give my customers is...DONT OVER FEED THE TANK. The rule is, if you think the fish have had enough to eat, you have already over-fed them. The basics of the aquarium water chemistry have been discussed in the "Understanding Your Aquarium" section of this website, and over feeding is the cause of the majority of problems encountered with an aquarium. The left over food rots on the bottom and causes toxin concentrations to rise quickly. Follow the feeding instructions I give you and if you have any questions about the instructions please contact me.

  2. Use the aquarium lighting only when necessary. Excess lighting can lead to accelerated algae growth. I can install a timer that will automatically regulate the amount of light the tank receives. With the exception of some aquarium life (Corals, plants, etc.), your tropical fish can go without the lights being on all day/night long.

  3. Make sure to keep cleaning products away from the aquarium, and that also goes for insecticides that may be used. While your filter system can remove a certain amount of toxic material from the aquarium water, they can easily become overwhelmed by carelessly sprayed chemicals. I can provide you with safe glass cleaner that can be used between maintenance visits. If you must use cleaner on the cabinetry or glass of the aquarium, apply the product to the cloth that will be used to wipe with. DO NOT SPRAY DIRECTLY AT THE AQUARIUM.

  4. Keep the aquarium shaded from direct sunlight. This will also accelerate algae growth at an extreme. If the aquarium has to be in a spot that receives direct sunlight, I am sure we can explore some different options and come up with a suitable resolution.
