Ch. 13: The Unlucky Chapter
The seminar had been very interesting. It was a refreshing change to be around so many people who were interested in the same thing as me. Milo Thatch was there too. We sat together and talked a lot of Atlantis. I hoped that was he was saying about it was true. I hoped that one day I would get to go. However, the seminar ended a bit early. I stood outside with Milo.
“Are you sure that you don’t want me to wait with you?” he asked me.
“Go home, Milo,” I said. “It’s been a long day. Helga will be here to pick me up shortly. I only have about fifteen minutes to wait.” He looked at me uncertainly. “Go,” I said.
“Well, all right. See you around, Adrienne.”
“Good-bye.”
He disappeared down the street. I checked my watch. The streetlights had already come on, but I felt fine. The minutes went by. All of a sudden I felt strange. I felt as if I was being watched. I didn’t have the training of a soldier, but I had my instincts. Someone…or something was watching me. I glanced left…then right. “Hurry up Helga,” I said to myself. Then I heard a noise behind me. I spun around quickly, but it was too late. Someone grabbed me from behind. “Help!” I screamed. I felt hands around my throat. There was more than one person. “Help! Hel…” A hand clapped over my mouth. I struggled. Whoever had me was strong. I bit the hand and heard a small cry of pain. A man…two men… “Somebody help me!” I shouted. Then I felt a cloth over my nose and mouth. I smelled something strong. “Can’t breath…” My mind began to spin. I couldn’t see straight. And then everything was darkness…
A sudden jolt woke me up sometime later. I still couldn’t see. Everything was still darkness. Pitch black. I could hear two men talking. We were riding in some type of car. I didn’t dare move. Then it kicked in. I had been kidnapped. This was for real. But who could have planned this? And why? My arms were tied behind my back. I was still feeling awfully woozy. How much time had passed? Certainly someone was looking for me. Helga must have discovered that I was gone…right? I couldn’t think. The must have drugged me with something. Before I knew it I had passed out again.
