1977-1984 Cadillac Deville

For `77, the DeVille series was on the same body as the more exclusive Fleetwood Brougham series. The Coupe Deville had a vinyl padded rear-quarter roof. The sedan and coupe both had better gas mileage and more room in their smaller forms. They also gained more trunk space. The new models proved to be very popular and set another sales record.

For 1978 both DeVille models got a new front and rear-end treatment plus some other revisions.

For 79, the engine was re-calibrated for better gas mileage, and the DeVille's interior was revised. This proved to be yet another record breaking year

For 1980, the DeVille was totally restyled eventhoug it was still on the same body. The engine was reduced to 6.0 liters and in 1981 Cadillac introduced the V-8-6-4 modulated displacement engine. The engine proved to be a liability to Cadillac and was not used agein except for in the stately Fleetwood Limousines. The sucessor was the 4.1 liter HT-4100 DFI power system with standard digital fuel-injection.

This is a 1983 Coupe DeVille with the Coupe DeVille d'Elegance package and genuine wire wheels. For 1983, the DeVille got a new symbol under the Cadillac script on the rear decklid.

For 1984, the DeVille series was gaining in popularity, but had to be replaced in 85 because of Federal Regulations. The DeVille in 1984 got such items as Electronic Level Control as standard equipment, further lessening the distinction between DeVilles and Fleetwoods.
