Born Valerie Tindel, in the town of Kimmerstone, Vale's life has not been that difficult nor eventful. Her mother was a tavern wench that never denied she has no idea who Vale's father is. Vale is light to her mothers dark and wonders often if she favors her father in looks. The lived in the Spear and Dagger Inn, her mother helped tend and took in men for better money. When she was 15 her mother suggested she sell herself to bring in money. Deciding that she didn't wish to do that but refusing to be a burden to her mother, Vale chose to leave. Lying in the begining about her age she took work at Inns and taverns as she traveled. At first traveling to get far enough away in case someone managed to convince her mother she was duty bound to retrieve the girl. By the time she felt safe, she was feeling restless and continued to travel around from town to town. She realizes that part of her restlessness is a desire to find somewhere to belong, but not knowing how to go about doing it and another desire to find her father, though she doubts she can since her mother had no idea who he was. Arriving in Dunbouri she is looking for that place to belong having been traveling the last 8 years. She surprised herself by finally finding it, with the Brotherhood of the Rose. She is eager to learn and to serve, thrilled at being allowed to help Lady Grace with the Dozing Dragon Inn.

    She is curious to see what life holds for her now that she is with others.
