If you have
never been chased by a very angry great wyrm red dragon, it is
not an experience that I would recommend you try. As a matter
of fact, its something that I would recommend any sane person
or dragon, try to avoid as much as possible. Fire filled the second
chamber as he hurtled through it, the spout of flames reached
so close to us that blisters raised up on the exposed skin at
the back of my neck. Thankfully we entered the chamber with the
monstrous machine at the center a moment later, giving us a moment
before Darkheat would be able to get another such searing breath
weapon attack off at us. I had no doubt that if we were caught
unprotected in lord Darkheat's breath weapon, we would die. It
was that simple.
Lord Sutton
skidded to the side on the smooth crystal floor, as he entered
the chamber, trying to avoid the towering monstrosity which dominated
the center of the room, and I did not blame him. If anything,
it seemed worse now that Lord Sutton's bulk did not hide the majority
of the machine. The hundreds of smaller crab like claws were empty,
but still slightly curled outwards, as if waiting for the next
prey to come along. The four large ones, which had punctured through
Lord Sutton's side and supported his weight were still coated
with silver laced black dragons blood. The glass chamber at the
base of the machine was half full with the same black silver highlighted
blood.
The roar of
the approaching Great Wyrm got us moving after our small pause.
Lord Sutton craned his neck around to look at me, where I sat
perched between two spikes on his back. It was one of those moments,
when no physical communication is needed. We reached a plan in
that one glance, a plan which we both agreed upon. If we could
not escape Taltros, we would have to make positive that the machine
was not used. No matter what the consequences we could not allow
them to change the past, or alter the present, whichever it was
exactly that the machine did.
My sword had
not returned to its sheath since I had entered the crystal tower,
and I hung onto it grimly with my right hand. My left taking hold
of the silver scale infront of me as we charged for the machine.

A mature adult
Silver dragon is a large creature. No matter how you look at it,
they have a lot of mass, and once they get moving the amount of
momentum they can get up is almost frightening. Jean Sutton charged
across the chamber, headed directly for the machine which stood
like a pillar in the middle. He aimed directly for the glass chamber
at its base, which was filled with his blood, and let loose with
the cone of cold which is a silver's breath weapon. The air froze
as the blast of cold enveloped the base of the machine infront
of them, just as the huge form of the great red wyrm emerged from
the other chamber, behind them. As they have a penchant for doing,
things slowed as the chamber became of focal point for all involved.
The glass
crystallized with ice, and the blood inside of it congealed, as
the silver dragons breath weapon enveloped it. Laureine's long
sword glowed as she sliced the blade through the air, severing
the claws of the machine which reached for Jean's side, activated
as the silver dragon came close once more to the machine. Green
ichor spouted from the claws, as if the machine itself was a living
thing, and was bleeding from the slashes. A seeming wall of fire
outlined the silver dragon and elf as Darkheat let loose with
another blast of breath weapon, striving to reduce them to ash
before they reached the machine. The blast was straight on, and
there was no way the elf and dragon would be able to avoid it
totally, not that they were trying.
Just as the
wave of fire reached the dragon and elf, Jean slammed into the
base of the machine. Shattering the glass into a shower of crystal
shards which exploded through the air, even as the congealed black
blood inside erupted along with the shards, at the force of the
impact.
From afar,
Taltros Island became visible for a moment. The islands cloaking
spell disintegrating as the broiling explosion of magic ripped
through the crystal and swept outwards across the island. The
wave of magic was visible to even those who had no mage sight,
rippling through the air as the wavefront exploded from the top
of the crystal tower, the shock wave shattering the crystal and
sending shards hurtling through the air for miles. The sides of
the thousand foot tall crystal tower bulged and rippled, before
exploding, as the shockwave traveled through the inside of the
tower towards its base.
Then Taltros
was gone once more form sight.
