I dont know
who was more stunned that a god was standing in our Guest Chambers,
myself or Lord Sutton. I know that after the introduction, and
Bahamut's claim that Tiamat was trying to destroy the Council,
there was a long, and rather awkward silence. Lord Sutton was
staring at Bahamut with an expression that said he wasn't sure
whether to attack or tell the god to get lost. I was still in
the shock phase of all this, my dealings with gods was limited,
thankfully. They always seemed to be more trouble then they were
worth when they did show up. I remember some of the old stories
which Lord Sutton's father had told me. Of the choices gods often
demanded, or the one's in which a mortal was used as a pawn in
the larger games that they played.
From the reaction
Lord Sutton was having, it didnt take much to assume that one
of those had happened to him.
It was only
a few moments before Lord Sutton shook his massive head and slowly
lowered himself down to a laying position. His tension was obvious
by the twitching of his tail, and I took my cue from him. I stood
near his right side, hand still on the hilt of my sword, ready
for anything that might happen. I still remember thinking what
a pity it was that I had left my bow back with the clan. The distinctive
silver shafted weapon would have been a tad too unique to hide
on the trip here.

"I would
offer you something to drink, but you wont be staying long will
you?" Jean Sutton began as he studied the seemingly old man
sitting across from him. "What are you talking about, Tiamat
is always trying to destroy the Council. That's why you hang around
isnt it?" Laureine flinched at the cold tone in the silver
dragons voice, any lingering doubts about the relationship between
the two which she may have harboured were dispelled.
"I see
you are still having problems coming to terms with what happened
to the Circle of Light. Regardless of your feelings towards me,
you are about to become a catalyst in what is happening here."
Jean's one good eye narrowed as he regarded the old man sitting
there. Anger swelled in him as Bahamut mentioned the reason that
he had sworn to never revere the god again.
"Dont
you dare mention The Circle to me again. You could have saved
them and the town, but you didn't. How dare you come here to use
me as a pawn again?" The temperature in the chamber dropped
again as the god's eyes narrowed in anger as well. The feeling
of power around the old one was nearly palpable as that happened,
and Laureine's fingers tightened around her sword hilt.
"Before
you dismiss me so easily, think about who is watching over your
children, Sutton. Your allies are not so numerous that you can
anger all of us with impunity. I came here to warn you, think
before you accept any challenges." With that he was gone.
No fan fair, no fireworks, just simply no longer where he was
sitting before.
"Laureine,
I have a really bad feeling about this." Muttered Jean, as
he regarded the empty chair. To which the elf could just nod wordlessly
in agreement.
