DeSalvo did not spend much time targeting his victims. However, he usually choose young or old women living alone in apartments.
All his victims was sexually assulted and strangled. He usually strangled the women with an article of their clothing(stockings, bras, slips)and then tie it in a big bow under thier chin. Some women were not only strangled but stabbed and bitten. After hne sexually molested the women's bodies, he would position them in strange obscene positions. He left the body in full view of the entrance so anyone who came in to the home would be able to see his work immediatly. He would usually molest the bodieswith objects, they police did not often find sperm inside the victims. He did however rape some of the victims. In almost every appartment, there was no sign of forced entry. DeSalvo must have been let into the apartments by all of the women. He would rummage through the apartments to make it look like a burglury but rarely took any thing and left no finger prints. One time police found silver paper from what they guess was camera film. They suspected that he may have photographed his handy work.
