ABOUT KIWI

KIWI is not only beautiful but, extremely talented..... We have had KIWI for over 5 years: We got him at a bird fair in Bradenton Fl. He was a birthday present to me from my husband as I loved the wild parrots when we moved here:

His kind are from the country of Patagonia in the far end of South America, they are also in Argentina They are a cliff dwelling parrot, they drill 6 ft into the side of a clay bank and each set of parrots, seperate into their own cave and raise their young:

Breed name: Patagonian Conure-Male-surgically sexed when we bought him:
Scientific species name: Cyanoliseus Patagonus
We have been told that there are a lot more females than males about 100 to 1 infact in captivity:
The closest are about 150 miles from here:

Kiwi is on a schecule as parrots need a lot of rest and sleep: He gets up at 8 am has bird pelleted food softened with Orange juice goes down for a napp at 10am, has mix of pastas peas, corn & mixed vegs. with music either air cond. or heat to keep the Lini at 70 degrees as close as we can: Back up at noon and gets pellets again up till 2pm, down for a napp gets the pasta & veg mix, back up at 4pm gets pellets again and down for the night at 6PM with his cage completely covered and nothing except the dry pellets which are available to him at all times:

His only treat is 1/2 walnut a day: Night light on Lini and play 2 tapes of music for him: We never hear from him till the next morning when I go out onto the Lini and get him up:

Steve his daddy has made him boxes which have a bell at the doorway and a battery op. light inside: One under the computor that is where he plays : We have tiled the whole house so that we can spot with vinigar water; Kiwi is being potty trained on a low perch and doing quit well, will actually go to it himself once in a while and always if we set him on and tell him to go potty.

Actually we almost lost Kiwi 2 years ago, we were on vac. at Steve's home then going on to Ohio to where my children and grandchildren. Well Kiwi got sick and took him to vet as soon as we got to N.C. we had to take him to Vet train. hosp. in Religh, N. C. they found he had a piece of lead or zinc lodged in his gizzard:
