Finally on Easter Sunday in 1973, he got rid of his much hated mother. While she was sleeping, Ed beat her to death with a claw hammer. He decapitated her and removed her larynx. When he tried to shove her larynx down the garbage disposal, it shot back up at him. He later said, “Even when she was dead, she was still bitching at me. I couldn’t get her to shut up.” Edmund then raped her corpse, and used her head as a dartboard. He thought it would seem less suspicious if another body was found with his mother’s, so Ed invited her best friend Sara Hallet to dinner. When she arrived, he strangled and decapitated her. Later that night he had sex with her dead body. He put the heads in a sack and drove to Pueblo, Colorado. He rented a room and waited. He expected a huge manhunt. To Ed’s surprise, three days went by and his crime was still unnoticed. Edmund decided to call the Santa Cruz Police and confess to his crimes. Because Ed had befriended many of the local cops, nobody believed him at first. Once he started giving them a detailed confession to all of the murders, he was taken into custody.
