Ed was admitted into Atascadero State Hospital at the age of fifteen. He seemed to be showing signs of recovery as far as the doctors were concerned. Meanwhile, he was listening to the stories of other patients. Many of them were serial rapists. He listened to their stories and took notes. Ed thought about what they did wrong, how they were caught. He knew that this information would be useful later on. Edmund’s doctors recommended that he never be released into his mother’s care. In 1969, the Youth Authority sent him to live the woman he hated most, his mother. When Ed was released, he was twenty years old. He was six feet nine inches tall and weighed 280 pounds.
