Chapter 9

"There really isn't much to tell." I answered. What did they need to know anyways? "OK, then I'll tell." Fatima said, "Lemme see...What should I tell?" "Beats me..." I said, shrugging my shoulders. For some reason, I don't think the guys liked me too much. And Nick started acting all weird after he gave me back my wallet. Did he see my hideous drivers license? "We wanna know everything. Absolutly everything." Kevin said. He hoped that if she said too much, Nick might get turned off a bit and not blow this situation out of order. "Absolutly everything?" I repeated. The guys nodded. "OK, I just turned 18 on June 18th. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and I'm starting University next week. I live in Georgia, but I'm in Jacksonville to take my cousin to the concert. Who I lost. I live with my parents and siblings. I have s brother, Barry. He 16. A older sister, Elizabeth, she's 20. I've been dancing since I was 3 years old. I'm also a gymnast. I play basketball and tennis. And I don't like people who hate me for no reason." I looked pointedly at the guys. I smiled as I watched them squirm. "You didn't change a bit!" Fatima said laughing. She is something, Kevin thought. She definitly put us on the spot there. And she knew it too. Nobody knew what to say. So we walked to the room in silence. There was about 50 people there. Most of them were girls. About 10-13. They all looked really, really nervous. The guys immediatly went in to Backstreet Mode. Smiling and shaking hands. Some girls broke down and cried. Howie's facial expression was hilarious when that happened. He walked to the table, to where I was sitting and sat down next to me. He looked horrified. "Oh, Howie. It wasn't your fault." I conforted him, "They were just overly excited." "I'll never get used to that." he confessed. I laughed at him. "Well, that's weird, considering you've been through this practically 24/7 for years now." "It's hard. Sometimes, I wish everyone will just disapeer and I could have just 1 minute of privacy." "I get it. I'm disappering....." "No, not you! You don't start to faint and cry." "Actually, I did pass out." He looked at me like he didn't believe me. "I got smushed and I couldn't breath." I explained. Now he was laughing at me. "Hey, D! Get over here, time for group and fan pics." somebody with a camera yelled. "I'm comming...." he answered, "Hey Emily? Thanks." "For what?" I asked. "Giving me a sane moment." "No problem!" I said cheerfully. He walked off to the rest of the guys. "Howie, what were you talking to Emily about?" Nick asked as nonchalantly as he could. "Nothing much. Just a plain conversation." Howie said, and shook a fan's hand. What were they talking about? Nick wondered. About me, maybe? What? He stood there staring in to space as he pondered. He didn't even notice when the fans started to leave. Now it was just them. "Look at Nick. "Brian whispered to Howie, "He's really uptight about this whole thing." "I know, I think he's afraid that we won't like her." Howie replied. "We're not suppose to, right?" Brian asked. "I'm not sure. We don't want Nick getting hurt, but that doesn't automatically mean we should treat Emily badly. Plus, she's really nice. Very down to earth." "I haven't talked to her yet, so I wouldn't know." "You'll know soon enough." "Why?" "Cause she's coming this way." Howie said. "Have you guys seen Fatima?" Emily asked. "Went to get food with Kev and AJ." Howie resonded, he made his voice louder for Nick's benefit, "So Emily, tell us more about yourself." Nick perked up and moved over to where they were standing. "I've told you just about everything." Emily replied. "There's gotta be more than that." Nick argued. "Well, what do you want me to tell you?" "Anything." Brian said, empathizing the word. "Anything could be everything. How about you guys ask me questions and I'll answer." "OK, how long have you known Fatima?" Howie started. "Since I was 13." "Do you play sports?" "We're just repeating what I said before! Basketball and tennis, mostly. But I'll try anything." "What do you do in your spare time?" "Dance, talk on the phone, go out with friends, go online, shop, I don't know!" Emily cried, frustrated. She is so cute, Nick thought, smiling. "Are you guys torturing Emily?" Fatima asked, coming in with Kevin and AJ, holding 3 boxes of pizza. "Yup." Brian said, reaching for a box. He walked toward the coffee table in front of the TV. Everybody sat around the table. Emily plopped on the couch in between Nick and Fatima. "Don't worry, Emmy. They only need a sex slave for a little while. Once they get bored, they'll go get another one." Fatima said, patting Emily on the back. AJ opened his mouth to say something, but closed it when Fatima said, "Watch your mouth AJ. She's just a baby." "God, you sound like my brother! Do I look like a baby?" she asked them all. They look at her, not sure what to say. She did not look anything like a baby. Nick saw AJ look her up and down. Obviously checking her out, but she either didn't notice or didn't care. He glared at AJ. AJ eventually caught Nick's glare and shrugged his shoulders like saying, no big deal. "How is your brother anyways?" Fatima asked in a softer tone. "Why?" Emily asked back. Fatima narrowed her eyes at her. "He's fine." she said with a wave of her hand, "David's going out with this really annoying chick though. Liz and I can't stand her. Richie hates her and my parents haven't met her." "Hate to stop your conversation, but pizza's getting cold." Brian said, reaching for a slice. "Not hungry." Fatima and Emily said at the same time. "How could you not be hungry? I mean, the last time you ate must be hours ago!" Nick argued. She simply shrugged and said "You can eat for me than." "Mmmmm! Pizza!" Aaron cried and ran in the room, follwed by his giant iguana. "Aaron, no!" Fatima yelled. "AHHHHHHHHH!" Emily shrieked
