Chapter 4
I walked through the gates and continued walking dragging my cousin along. "Emily, will you PLEASE let go of my sleve?" Lisa asked in annoyance.
"OK, but stick close to me." I did not want to lose my cousin here. There was girls everywhere. Mostly girls aged from 9-13 but there were quite a few younger and older (my age). And an occasional guy or two. We walked until we hit the bleachers. Then each of them took one of my arms and dragged me to the crowd on the floor. See, the Commenwealth was divided up in sections kinda. There was an big oval in the front (consider that floor seats, first row to about 20), then a wide open area (the seats behind the good floor seats), then there was the bleachers all the way up the the nose bleed seats. We got to the field, and we were in the middle. They made everyone sit.
"I wish I was up there..." Lisa said depressed, "We'll never get to see them!" Caroline nodded in agreement. I really didn't care. All I cared about that moment, was the fact that I was sitting on this muddy tarp covering the field. We sat there for a good half hour. My legs were getting sore. I started to dust off my jeans when all of a sudden everyone stood up!
"Shoot!" I said. I quickly jumped to my feet, checked if my bag was still there and reached for my cousin's hand behind me. I smacked my hand in to Lisa's stomach.
"Oop! Sorry, Lisa." I said turning around. It wasn't Lisa! I muttered sorry again and looked around me. I couldn't find her! Oh my God! Panic! "Lisa?" I yelled, straining my neck to look for her. But it was useless.
There was too many people, and everyone was pushing. I turned around and my back was facing the stage. I kept on calling out Lana, but no luck. I kept on backing up 'cause the crowd was pushing. I didn't even notice when my back smacked in to the barrier separtating the oval and the open area. I spun around. Hey, my view of the stage was pretty darn good. Too bad nobody was on it though, except for a rough lookin' security guard asking everybody to take a big step back at the barricade. That's when I felt the wind get knocked out of me. The people behind me were pushing me in to the barricade. I was suffocating. One of the guards, positioned on the bridge between the two barriers, noticed my red face and yelled, "Everybody, move back!" That was when I really began to feel light headed. I kinda fainted. But I could still feel someone life me up and carry me somewhere. Backstage? I mumbled something, and whoever it was shushed me. That person set me down on something. It was more quiet now. I could still hear the muffled screams and the chant of 'Backstreet Boys! Backstreet Boys!'.
"Our first fainter! All right!" a woman's voice cried out. I slowly open my eyes. She was blurry. I sat up and almost fell back down. She laughed.
"It's OK sweetie, you'll be OK." she said. I smelled something foul and my eyes popped open.
"Ewww...." I cried. She laughed.
"Nick's socks. Work better than smelling salts." She smiled and stuck her hand out at me, "I'm Nancy." She looked about mid 20-ish. Brown hair pulled back into a bun and was wearing a white nurse/doctor thingy. I shook her hand and replied,
"I'm Emily." I paused for a moment, "Where those really Nick's sock?" Which one was Nick anyways?
She looked at me, "They're just his socks that he wore to rehersals. Uh-oh, you're not gonna pass out again, are you?" I looked at her with my mouth wide open. "They're just socks! If you want you can keep them..."
"Heck no!" I cried, "That's disgusting!"
She laughed at me again, "So I take it you're not a Nick fan?"
"I don't think I'm a fan, period."
"Open your eyes, wide." she said. Then she shined a flashlight in to my eyes and continued talking "I thought you were some obsessed fan, who was freaking out because you got to smell Nick's stinky socks."
"Oh, yeah! I just love him enough to enjoy the smell of his socks!" I said sarcastically. Nancy just laughed.
"Well, it looks like you're OK. Just don't be passing out anytime soon, though." Nancy said turning the light off. It was beginning to hurt my eyes.
"No need to worry about that." I hopped off the table/bed thing. I felt much better.
"Lonnie will take you back out. He's over there." she said pointing to the doorway, out of the room.
"OK, ummm....thanks...."
"No problem." I turned and started walking away.
"Oh, wait!" I cried, turning around, "I lost my cousin!" She gave me a weird look.
"You'll have to ask Lonnie about that one...."
"OK, thanks...again." I walked up to Lonnie and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Oh, hey!" he said cheerfully, (Was everybody this friendly?) "Glad to see that you're feeling better!"
"Thanks, I lost my cousin!" I blurted. Great, now he'll think I'm a ditz.
"How'd you do that?"
"During the mad rush to the front."
"Don't worry about it. She was close to you at the beginning, right?" he asked.
"Yeah."
"Well, then she probably made it in to the oval. I'll drop you off there." he said reasuring. I gave him a weak smile and followed him out the room.
Meanwhile...
The guys where watching Aaron preform from behind the stage door. Kind of checking out the fans, actually. Nick scanned the stadium to look for the girl. He couldn't see her anywhere. It killed him, the fact that he probably did see her but looked right past because the crowd was so big. He let out a loud, defeated sigh.
"Yo, what's your problem Nicky?" Howie asked.
"Nuthin'" Nick answered.
"Let's get back in, KiKi wants to do some last minute touch ups." Kevin said.
They started to walk back in. They were walking past wardrobe, towards make up, when they went past Lonnie. Following him was the girl Nick saw on TV! She's so small, he though, so tiny compared to Lonnie. Nick didn't have the guts to stop and talk so he just stared at her hard, wishing she would just glance back. His wish was answered, she glance up. She caught his eyes and smiled a flirty, but subtle smile. Nick melted right there, his eyes staring in to hers. Just then, he seem to forget his ability to walk. He fell down with a loud thump! He caused somewhat of a dominoes effect, because the rest of the boys had tripped over Nick's body, which was lying on the floor. Lonnie and the mystery girl burst out laughing.
"They usually aren't like this." Lonnie said between gasps. The girl just smiled, and they continued to walk off.
"I am such a moron!" Nick yelled (still lying on the floor), as soon as she left.
"Looks like Nicky boy has it bad!" Brian commented. The others nodded in agreement.
"Hey Nick? Were you trying to impress her with your clown act?" AJ asked, totally oblivious to the fact that she was the 'TV girl'.
"Oh yeah, sure! I acted like a total loser just to impress her!" He stood up, fixing his shirt. "I cannot believe I did that!" Nick said over and over again.
"Get over it. I hate to bring this up, Nick, but you'll probably never see her again." Kevin said, "Now c'mon! We've got a show to do!"
"I wish I could see her again...." Nick whispered to himself.
