Health Tips

FOOD CAN SOMETIMES BE THE BEST MEDICINE.
WHAT TASTES GOOD CAN ALSO HELP YOU FEEL GOOD.
CHECK IT OUT,AND EAT FOR WHAT AILS YOU.

*Berries*

Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries are great sources of fiber and vitamin C.While these tangy, sweet jewels are not in season now, find them in the frozen foods section of your supermarket.Be sure to buy the unsweetened varieties so you can add the sweetener of your choice.Thaw and serve these over cereal or plain yogurt.Drop some frozen berries, milk, and a little honey into a blender for a refreshing frozen beverage. When fresh berries come to market they're a sweet snack or dessert-just wash and enjoy.

*Cabbage*

This guards against ulcers and help prevent anemia. The headly vegetable also kills bacteria and viruses, and it prevents some forms of cancer.Use that juicer in storage to get the maximum nutrients from cabbage. Then combine cabbage juice with celery juice or pineapple juice for a healthy drink.Shred a head of cabbage for crisp, flavorful slaw,or steam it for a speedy nutritious addition to any meal.No matter how you like it prepared, have cabbage soon-and often.

*Garlic*
Perks up the flavor of so many dishes,it's easy to forget that it is a known disease fighter. It helps to lower blood pressure, reduce plaque build up in arteries, and prevent blood clots from formng(reducing the possibility of strokes). It's a great buy,so get several bulbs at a time.Roast one or two foil-wrapped bulbs in a 424 degrees oven for about 30 minutes. When they're cool enough to handle, holding the bulb at the bottom, squeeze the soft pulp into a small container.Use this soft,mild,nutty-tasting garlic as a spread for baked vegetables and breads.Fresh and roasted, garlic will keep for weeks in the refrigerator,if covered with oil.If you don't like the taste of garlic, you can still get the benefits in tablet and liquid form.

*Ginger*
This is a hard working root that adds healthful properties to a wide variety of foods.Freshly grated gingerroot brings stir-fry dishes to life with spicy heat.Serve pickled ginger-available in most supermarkets-as a condiment with Asian-inspired recipes.Candied ginger is a good way to take it with you. While its sweet burn fills your mouth, ginger is great for motion sickness, nausea, indigestion, coughs, and sore throats.Simmer peeled pieces of fresh gingerroot in water for a great-tasting tea.
