Cole: Ya know I never should have told him to go get those chips.

Andrea: Yeah but the whole party was my idea.

Gabrielle: You guy's it isn't your fault. Things like this happen all the time. I'm sad but there is nothing we can do about it. Let's try to remember the good times we had with him.

Andrea: Yeah Cole has lots of those.

Cole: (Sadly) I really miss him. He was my best friend and did you see his parents at the funeral. It was horrible.

Gabrielle: His parents must be torn. I can't even imagine what they are going through.

Cole: And we shouldn't have to.

Andrea: (Sniffles and begins to cry) He never hurt anybody in his life. Why did he have to die? He never deserved this. (at this point Andrea is wailing)

Cole: (Comforting, puts his arms around Andrea) It's ok you still have me. And I will always be here for you. With Richard gone and Gabrielle moving we will really have to stick together.

Gabrielle: I'm not gone yet, and you know that I am always here for you.

Cole: Well not for much longer.

Gabrielle: (Shocked) I can't believe you just said that! (to Cole) Well when I leave at least you will be happy. I'm wondering if you ever loved me in the first place!

Andrea: Of course he loves you. Don't talk to him like that. His best friend just died.

Cole: (Sarcastically) Girls don't fight over me!

Gabrielle: Shut up Cole. You are so full of yourself.

Andrea: That is no way to talk to a friend! I can't believe that you would do that at a time like this. If you were a real friend you would be comforting us.

Gabrielle: Cole seems to be doing a good job at that.

Andrea: And that is why he is a real friend.

Gabrielle: And I'm not? (More calmly) Andrea, I really don't want to fight with you.

Andrea: The only way we're not going to fight is if one of us leaves. Have fun in New Zealand.

Gabrielle: (Taken aback, but then in an icy tone) I'm sorry I ever left New Zealand, but I am more then happy to leave here. And I was afraid that I would miss everything here, but now I'm thinking twice.

Andrea: Well that's a first!

Cole: Come on you guys. Stop this before it gets out of hand. You need to calm down and talk to each other.

Gabrielle: When Andrea's ready to talk like a mature person, then I will listen, but right now I am going home. (Exits stage right)

Andrea: (Under her breath) Yeah that's real mature.

Cole: Gabrielle had no right to say that to you at a time like this.

Andrea: Why did you go out with her in the first place?

(Gabrielle Enters stage right and walks upstage behind Cole and Andrea. She is willing to apologize, but she stays silent deciding on how to say it)

Cole: Well don't ever tell any one, but I was dared to go out with her. Then I started liking her, but I have always liked you more.

(Gabrielle is upset. She walks sharply off stage right. Cole sees her out of the corner of his eye, and knows that she knows what he just said)

Andrea: (Interested) You know, I have always wanted you to say that, but I never knew you actually felt that way.

(Andrea hugs Cole, but Cole is looking in the direction where Gabrielle went)

Cole: (Still looking in the direction where Gabrielle went) Me neither. (Andrea gives Cole a puzzled look, smiles, and hugs him again)

Scene four: The airport terminal leading to the jet way which is upstage center where the ticket taker stands. Gabrielle and her mother and father are ready to board the plane. Gabrielle and her mom are sitting in chairs stage left, and her father is standing beside them.

Intercom Voice: Now boarding flight 528 non-stop to Auckland, New Zealand.

Gabrielle's Mom: (Stands up) Come on Gabrielle that's our flight.

Gabrielle: Coming

(Gabrielle gets up, and she and her parents go to the entrance of the jet way. Jason enters stage right, looks around, and crosses exit stage left. The ticket taker checks the tickets, and they walk into the jet way. Gabrielle turns around)

Gabrielle: (Out loud to herself) They're not even here to say good-bye.

Gabrielle's Mom: Don't worry. You're going back home now and everything is going to get better. You'll see, everything is going to be fine. (She hugs Gabrielle then walks down the jet way)

Gabrielle: (Sounds defeated) Bye guys (she turns and walks down the jet way as lights fade to black)

Scene 5: Andrea and Cole are standing in front of Gabrielle's old house, wondering who has moved in.

Cole: (Distantly) I kind of miss Gabrielle.

Andrea: I don't, but I wonder who moved into her house.

(Andrea and Cole walk up to the door and knock. The door opens and we see Jason.)

Jason: (Eyes locked on Andrea) Hi!

Cole: Hey we just stopped by to see who moved in. One of our friends used to live here.

Jason: Huh? Oh yeah? (Walks out of door and closes it behind him.) I'm Jason.

Cole: I'm Cole and this (points to Andrea) is Andrea.

Andrea: (With attitude) Yeah our "friend" that used to live here left without saying good-bye because we got into a big fight.

Cole: She was really nice before.

Andrea: (With attitude) Before we figured out that it was just an act.

Cole: (Exasperated, rolls his eyes) Whatever, Andrea.

Jason: It sounds like she had a really bad attitude. I wouldn't want to hang with someone like that!

Cole: (Defensive) Who are you to judge? Don't talk about someone like that if you don't even know them!

Jason: Sorry man, why are you so sensitive?

Andrea: (Flirty, teasing) Yeah. Men need to be strong.

Cole: (Upset) Well I left someone really sweet without an attitude (looks at Jason) for you Andrea. And now you go and leave me for the first moving thing you see. Go for it. Have fun without me! (Storms off stage left)

Jason: (Looks in the direction Cole went) Whoa what's up with him?

Andrea: (Flirty) Oh nothing. (Smiles sweetly) what's up with you? (Lights fade to black)

Scene 6: A few weeks later. The setting for this scene is a split stage. Stage right is set as Andrea's bedroom, which has a bed, a rug, and a desk with a phone in it. Outside her window it is night. Stage left is set as Gabrielle's kitchen. It has a counter with a phone on it and there is a stool near the counter. Outside the window it is day and we see snow falling (it is winter in New Zealand). Enter Andrea stage right.

Andrea: (Upset) I can't believe how insensitive Jason is! (Mimicking) Andrea this relation ship never worked from the start…oh please! I have to call Cole. (Sits at the desk and picks up telephone and dials Cole's number) Cole? Hello? (We hear dial tone) Hello? (Hangs up phone) Guys are so stupid sometimes! I need to call a friend (thinks) Gabrielle! (Gabrielle enters her kitchen stage left)

Gabrielle: I can't believe Andrea hasn't called yet. This has gone on long enough.

Andrea: I'm so sorry Gabrielle. (picks up phone)

Gabrielle: If she's willing to say that she is sorry, I'll forgive her. (picks up phone)

Flashbacks

Note: These flashbacks should be recorded on a tape before the performance. Andrea is sitting at her desk holding her phone. Gabrielle is sitting on the stool near the counter holding her phone. They are both having flashbacks.

Andrea's Voice: Gabrielle, it is so hot out here!

Gabrielle's Voice: Well at least we're not in math class!

Andrea's Voice: Or Geography. You are moving in a week. And you are going so far. I mean New Zealand…where is that anyway? They never taught us that in Geography. It's like halfway around the world right?

Gabrielle's Voice: It's near Australia, really Andrea and they did teach us that in Geography, but you wouldn't remember because you slept through it.

Andrea's Voice: That is no way to talk to a friend! I can't believe that you would do that at a time like this. If you were a real friend you would be comforting us.

Andrea's Voice: And that is why he is a real friend

Gabrielle's Voice: And I'm not? (More calmly) Andrea, I really don't want to fight with you

Andrea's Voice: The only way we're not going to fight is if one of us leaves. Have fun in New Zealand.

Andrea's Voice: Who is it?

Cole's Voice: Well…someone who should come back um later.

Gabrielle's Voice: Cole!

Andrea's Voice: No Cole really who is….

Cole's Voice: Surprise?

Andrea's Voice: What? Oh yeah um…(perky) surprise!

Gabrielle: Isn't anybody else supposed to be here?

Cole's Voice: Well don't ever tell any one, but I was dared to go out with her. Then I started liking her, but I have always liked you more.

Gabrielle's Voice: They're not even here to say good-bye.

Andrea's Voice: (Seriously) No matter how far away you are we'll still be best friends forever

Gabrielle's Voice: All of us, even Richard.

End Flashbacks

(Gabrielle puts down the phone and shakes her head)

Gabrielle: It's too late now.

Andrea: Ok I've got to do this. (Dials Gabrielle's number)

Gabrielle: (Picks up phone) Hello?

Andrea: Gabrielle it's me Andrea. I am so sorry!

Gabrielle: What took you so long?

Andrea: Well there was the thing with Cole and then Jason and well…

Gabrielle: How many chances did I give you?

Andrea: Gabrielle I'm sorry!

Gabrielle: No Andrea, I'm sorry. It's over. (Hangs up phone and lights fade to black)
