Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher, IWA Mid-South Something To Prove, New Alhambra Sports & Entertainment Center, Philadelphia, PA, June 11, 2005.
Historical background: Necro Butcher bullied Joe's trainees in CHIKARA and Joe wanted revenge. This was also IWA Mid-South's debut on the East Coast, being held at the former ECW Arena. This was the main event.
Joe comes out first and the crowd loves him. CM Punk says that it's hard to pick a favorite but picks Joe to win. Necro walks out to a good reaction in his "CHOOSE DEATH" T-shirt. Necro enters the ring and he and Joe get in each other's faces and trash talk each other. Referee Bryce Remsburg tries to separate them and Necro pushes Bryce out of the way. Bryce tries again and this time Joe launches Bryce through the ropes to the floor! They start with both guys trading forearm shots. Necro hits the ropes and when he comes off Joe hits him with an Enzuigiri. Necro rolls out to the floor and Joe hits him with a forearm suicida, diving through the ropes to hit Necro with a forearm. Necro climbs over the guardrail and sits down on a chair in the crowd. Joe follows and hits a series of kicks to Necro's chest. Necro stands up and headbutts Joe and chops Joe a few times, which have no real effect. Joe responds with some headbutts of his own and some slaps, busting Necro open. Necro responds with some punches and throws a chair at Joe. Necro throws some more chairs as Eddie Kingston says, "Never fuck with a Samoan, I don't know what Necro's doing." Necro grabs Joe and applies a headlock and gets Joe in a fireman's carry and dumps him on the floor on the other side of the guardrail. Necro follows and pushes Joe over another guardrail. Necro tries something and Joe hits him with a powerslam and Necro lands face first on the floor! Punk asks, "How do you powerslam somebody on their forehead?" Joe gets to his feet and throws a chair at Necro's head. Joe grabs Necro and sits him down on a chair and hits a running kick to the face. Joe throws slaps and Necro throws forearms. Necro gets to his feet but his head is down and Joe knees him in the head. Necro collapses and Kingston mentions Joe powerslamming him on his forehead, which Prazak says isn't physically possible. Joe brings Necro to his feet and throws him over the guardrail. Joe follows and rolls Necro back into the ring. Joe follows and covers but only gets 2. Necro is face down on the mat and Joe repeatedly kicks him in the head. Joe picks up Necro who headbutts Joe in the stomach and then to the head. Necro runs off the ropes and hits Joe with a Big Boot that sends Joe to the floor. Necro follows and launches Joe into the guardrail. Necro starts moving the guardrails around as someone in the crowd says, "We want CZW rules." Necro places a guardrail in the ring as Joe crawls around on the floor in pain. Joe gets back in the ring and Necro throws the guardrail at him! With Joe down, Necro drops the guardrail on him. Necro follows with a Senton on the guardrail. Joe goes out to the apron and Necro follows and throws some punches. Joe grabs Necro and hits an Exploder Suplex off the apron to the floor! Necro is bleeding all over the place. The crowd chants "Holy shit! Holy shit!" Joe grabs a chair and just blasts Necro with a chairshot to the head. Joe rolls Necro back into the ring and follows as Punk says that he does not know what it takes to put Necro down. Joe places the guardrail on the second ropes. The crowd alternates between chants of "Let's go Necro!" and "Let's go Joe!" Joe powerbombs Necro on the guardrail! Joe pins Necro with one foot and it only gets 2! Prazak asks Punk what would be his strategy against Necro. Punk answers, "I would sign a contract with the WWE and run far, far away." Joe sets up a chair and goes for a German Suplex but Necro hits some back elbows to escape. Joe grabs Necro and hits the German Suplex onto the chair. Joe goes for the cover but Necro kicks out at 2! Joe, covered in Necro's blood, looks utterly confused, while the crowd chants "Necro! Necro! Necro!" The crowd starts to chant for Joe as Joe brings Necro to his feet and chops him a few times in the chest. Necro bounces off the corner and fires back with some punches and forearms, with Joe attempting to cover up from the attack. Joe responds with a series of palm strikes and knee strikes to a great reaction. Necro gets up, somehow, and Joe levels him with a kick. Bryce starts the count but Necro tries to get up but he can't. Bryce counts to 10, giving Joe the win by knockout at 9:49! *****!
Absolutely amazing brawl with a logic-defying performance by Necro that showed what a tough S.O.B. he really is and a great performance by Joe. Highly, HIGHLY recommended and you can watch it here.
