Site hosted by Angelfire.com: Build your free website today!

Earlier in the week I got a complaint about a few of the GG/DR backgrounds and all the photos posted from angelfire where appearing as an Angelfire Free Web Hosting ad. I don't know if anybody else has noticed the problem but a few days ago I emailed Angelfire about the problem. Today I read a response from them, it is hard explain so I thought I would just put the letter on a page for all to see. Here it is:

Last Friday (June 2, 2000) Angelfire made a change to our service that blocked the remote loading of images from Angelfire member directories. This was done to enforce a long-standing policy against remote loading as detailed in our Terms of Service. What this means is that if you were using your Angelfire directory to store images for access from another site (like for an eBay auction site), you would no longer be able to view those images from that "remote" page. Instead, you would see a default image created by Angelfire. Please be assured that we did not remove any images from your directory, nor were any member accounts deleted as a result of this action.

Unfortunately, this change was released before we were able to give proper notification to our members. We realize that you may need time to find an alternative hosting solution for your images that need access from other sites. To that end, we have temporarily disabled the remote loading block.

However, we will still be going ahead with this block in the future. Angelfire's mission and purpose is to provide free Web site hosting to our members. Remote loading of images and other files puts a strain on our servers that compromises our ability to give you fast and stable performance for your Angelfire Web site. Also, accounts that are used primarily for the hosting of images do not allow us to serve pop up or inline ads with their use. These ads are what allow us to keep Angelfire a free service, without them, we can't continue to exist.

On June 27, 2000, we will be reinstituting the remote image block. If you believe that you will be affected by this, we suggest that you find an alternate hosting provider for your images as soon as possible to avoid any loss.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

As many of you may know, I have been working (slowly) on moving DR and GG to a new location however, it is taking longer than I thought. I promise I will get it done ASAP!! †§hinning Ðove†
